Heading to see Condors

A travel blog entry by yayasworld

Reading my last journal entry, you probably thought Arequipa was beautiful, well it is very beautiful but not as beautiful as Chivay and the Colca Canyon.

Chivay is one of the most beautiful places I've seen in my life. Aside from the moist bread, the place is surrounded by mountains.

Today, after breakfast, we took the …

We flew into Lima from BA just over a week ago to join a 39 day tour down through Peru, Bolivia and Chile to Santiago. It turns out that being on a tour is great, and very busy, so I'll try and sum up what we've been up to using an exciting new feature - underlined headings. Apologies, but this is really long - if you can't be bothered, then just …

The drive from Arequipa to Chivay was a bit of an adventure :) We left Arequipa early in the morning and began climbing higher into the Andes. We stopped at a nice craft market for mate and headed further up. The highest pass we reached was over 5000m - the air was definitely much thinner and the smokers were all a bit light-headed after a …

We reached 5000 metres and stopped for coca tea and cheese sandwiches before descending into the valley of Chivay. After a 6 hour drive we headed for …

After days of driving in the desert, the green was definitely appreciated! The following morning we drove some more up through the canyon to Cruz del Condor. The canyon is home to the …

Does the job, clean beds and bathrooms, but not much character. If your Chivay on a Colca Canyon tour (like us) this isn't much of a problem though.
