Historical Traveler Reviews of Coconut Palms Inn Rincon
Best in Town
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in Parrot room, and the place was excelent. Room was clean, functional and all what you could ever need is there.
And the view from the balcony was one of the best in Globe :)
The place is cool for independent travellers. (As All Puerto Rico). You don't need 24h service in place like this. If you need something in Coconut, you can get it by asking. If the funny and friendly Beau-dog is really bothering you, you are most defenitely in wrong part of the island.
The setting in Coconut was perfect. If you stay in garden rooms, the opinion might be slightly different, but itīs still at least *** or ****.
If you need some action, and don't want to drive in town, just follow the waves about 1000 feet and you are standing in the Villa Coffresi Hotelīs Beach Bar.
No bugs, no problems and extraordinary sunsets. Rental Car is a compulsary, but naturaly you have one, if you are in Rincon?
PS: And you can't miss the place, if you FOLLOW the instructions.
Coconut Palms is Wonderful

Contrary to "Can't recommend this," we found the Coconut Palms quite the opposite in all regards. Directions were precise by Gayle, the owner, who answered our many e-mail queries about the guest house and area. The staff (Alison, Rosie, and Angel--hi, gang!) were friendly, charming, and helpful. Beau, the black lab, was a gentle joy (allergies, indeed!), as were the two outdoor cats (Hi Roy and Peewee!). The area was beautifully tropical as was the sheltered Carib on this west end of the island. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. As for cancellation policies, we inquired in advance and were told we could not cancell. Those who prefer dully conventional dogless digs might try the big hotel up the beach. Your loss!
Cheated and Run Down

The service here was maddening. We were charged for a night we did not use eventhough we notified them at check-in that we would not be able to stay that long. Then they said they would take care of it. The manager ducked us and evaded our questions for the remainder of our stay then called us after we left and said she was charging us not for a percentage of that night's fee but for the entirety of it.
Very unprofessional.
The manager also gave us crappy directions and when we arrived her big Black Lab ran to the gate.
She told us "He's part of the deal". That would have been nice to know before arrival. Luckily we're not allergic but, if you are be warned - You are at the whim of the owner in terms of overcharging you or being run down by her dog.

The place was pretty nice, right on the beach. But there were a few problems. First of all when we arrived late(after getting lost because of bad directions) at night 10 pm. no one was there, and we had to let our selves in. It was left unlocked with directions on how to get in and get keys at the door. That wasnt so bad, since it seemed like a safe neighborhood, but despite being introduced in the instructions to a dog name Beau, we were suprisingly confronted by a huge black lab. It didnt bark but it still scared us. The whole time we had to make sure to latch the gates, not to let the dog loose. And the dog hung out right infront of our room, we tripped over him a couple times. They mentioned nothing about a dog vebally or in their website. A dog could be a serious problem for someone with allergies or small kids. Now I dont want to get off on a rant, and we did enjoy our selves overall, but we tried to cancel our last night on the second day, and the receptionist said she would "take care of it", we ended up paying for two hotels that night. In my experince many Hotels can cancel a charge, she claimed she couldn't, she didt even charge just a percentage, which she claimed was her policy. Any way, it was overall a nice place and she was kind of helpfull in finding places to go, but I just would not reccomend it.
An Ideal Vacation

This was the best vacation ever. We had the best view in the house (Parrot room). The room was secluded and we enjoyed peaceful nights on the balcony with the the sound of the ocean and all the "coquis" (tiny tree frogs for those who do not know) were serenading us. We could not ask for a better spot to vacation. It was not very touristry on this side of the island, which made for a very romantic setting. The hosts, Gail and Johnnie were very helpful with the local attractions to see and the best places to dine. We are definitley coming back to this great island. And, yes we will be able to speak a bit more Spanish when we do come back. Like I said before, this vacation was the best we have ever taken and we were saddened to leave. We will be back!!!! Thank you Gail for talking me into the Parrot room.
A perfect week in the sun!

We just returned from a fabulous week at The Coconut Palms Inn in Ricnon, PR. The inn is located on a quiet street right on the beach, a nearly deserted white sand beach, I must add. We stayed in the Parrot room, a one bedroom apartment facing the ocean with a gorgeous balcony w/ table and chairs, very private. Our room seemed to be the best awailable, the rooms with garden views seemed quite small. The beach in front of the inn is everything you could hope for, soft white sand, turquoise water, gentle waves, and awesome sunsets every night! The staff at the inn are available, but leave you alone for the most part, you have to find them if you need anything, which was fine with us.
They light candles and tiki torches around the main patio at night, which gives the inn a festive, tropical flair. Our room was clean, spacious, and well stocked (things like dishes and utensils- it was an apartment with full kitchen). I did find it humorous to read some of the other reviews of the inn, especially the bad rating someone gave for the big bugs, and then went on to say that they had their door open most of the time. There are indeed some large insects in Puerto Rico, but they will stay outside if you keep your door closed. All in all, the week was a romantic, relaxing one spent at a quite, private inn with amazing natural surroundings. Rincon is a great little town, not too touristy. Would definitely recommend Black Eagle and The Lazy Parrot as spots to try for dinner, oh and brush up on that Spanish before you go!

A romantic setting with a great view, great price, we will come back.
Only TWO things were impressive
from A TripAdvisor Member
One star for the beach location - the only noise you can hear when you enter the inn is the ocean thundering away. You cross the rich lush garden, a hammock and a jacuzzi tub and follow the noise to the back porch, and you are faced with a magnificient view of the blue green ocean, whose waves, when really rough, brace the outer wall of the inn.
Exactly 15 steps from the back porch to the water - can't beat that.
One star for the sunset - this inn is exactly at the west end of the island, so we got a picture perfect view of the sunset and some of the best photos of the trip.
Unfortunately, all the good stuff was only outside. The directions given by the hotel staff were not very good - the route is well numbered and could be easily traced in the map, but the staff chose not to mention those in the directions and sent us spinning around the neighborhood. If not for the friendly people hanging around a street corner, we would have never found the place. We stayed at a $75/ night studio, which was supposed to have a garden view. After getting there, we discovered that there were NO windows!! The only view we'd get was by leaving the door open - but that was also a welcome mat for the mosquitos! So, it was literally, like my husband put it, a hole in the wall. Too much furniture cramped into too little a space - which made the room smell damp and stale. Several mosquitos and insects had made their home inside - I even caught a centipede crawling toward our open suitcase! Even though we only stayed in the room for the night, it was very unpleasant. Unless you're willing to co-exist with creepy crawly creatures in a muggy room, I'd suggest finding other hotels along the same street.
Christmas 2003 at Coconut Palms
from mbear
We spent our Christmas 2003 with 4 surfing sons at the Coconut Palms.
The innkeepers put us all at ease with information, comfort and a most helpful staff. This guest house is not far from surfing breaks and a wonderful area to sun, surf and sip during the day and gorgeous sunsets at night. There was set up for outdoor grilling over the water, patio with ample sunning chaises and a Christmas tree all lit on our late night arrival. Necessities are all available in the town of Rincon. Be prepared for the contrast of our cultures. We rented two cars because there was so many of us..A car is a necessity. We found plenty of good places to eat. from the wonderful "Jimmy Buffett" type bar Calypso to The 5 * Horned Dorset. BKB
Coconut Palms Inn, Rincon, a super vacation destination
from gilbro
Whether it was 6:00 A.M., stepping out on the balcony to see large fish chasing smaller ones, or at Sunset, looking for the green flash (never saw one), the Coconut Palms Inn was a terrific choice for a vacation. It sits on an uncrowded beach, with padded chaises, chairs, tables, and a large gas grill, on a patio directly above the beach. Our accomodations were very comfortable, and even had good sharp knives in the fully equipped kitchen. The staff did a wonderful job, and provided what ever we asked for. I would recommend this small inn to anyone wanting a quiet, and very nice vacation. Gil Brody
