Enjoy the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps with our free day in picturesque Zermatt. We will experience the Klein Matterhorn where the views across the mountain peaks are spectacular. Thank heavens we did not have an early start as Phil has been has been sick since early this morning, so Barbara and Karen went with our travelling companions to the Matterhorn. We travelled on two gondolas to get to the top of the mountain. The first gondola held a maximum of six people, ...

This morning we visit the picturesque Chillon Castle immortalised by Lord Byron's 'Prisoner Of Chillon'. We continue our journey to Zermatt, which is inaccessible by coach, ascend to our hotel by electric mini-buses and taxis. Late sleep in, thank heavens, beautiful breakfast then off to Chillon Castle. Of the four options, three of them pointed in the direction of the 5-Seenwag walk. The forth option listed all the places that our walk was "supposed" to take in. So what to do? Follow the (one of three) posts directing us, or roll the dice and go with the forth option? Option four was the winner today! And what a great gamble. Steep descending ...

... of the car- not the best feeling when you're quite high up (some extremely big drops and acute angles!) Before we hopped on we saw the operators shrugging at each other which really fills you with confidence! Couple of hours in the day spa in the afternoon and we are just about done. Probably didn't spend enough time here but we really wanted to go to Spain (we've been longing for a beach swim for 3 weeks now!) Tough choices but yet ntoher excuse to come ...

... The view of the Matterhorn was spectacular on the way up to the top, but remained shrouded in clouds for the rest of the day. It was 5 degrees celsius and covered in snow and glacial ice at the top. The air was surprisingly thin and was a little difficult to breath (it felt like you were constantly catching your breath.) The sun was shining. It was a beautiful day! In the distance you could see many glacier covered peaks. Just above us, ...
