      ZERMATT TO LONDON

A travel blog entry by nancya on Oct 08, 2014

... such a problem except it is rush hour . Who knew how many people could push their way into the subway car and doors still close. Imagine even more people cram in at the next stops and then the struggle of leaving with suitcases! AND it is pouring rain. Alas this isn't Switzerland! But we did have a good dinner at the Norfolk Arms (which we first visited with Peter and Pat ...

... their yellow fall colours. The rivers and lakes are coloured by glacial flour and a milky turquoise. The buildings have slate roofs often with orange lichen growing on them and some of the buildings are perched on stilts with flat slate rocks which are to keep the mice out apparently. Pottered about the little town of Pella near to where we are staying. Sat on wooden bench on quayside scoffing a gelato each like oldies do apparently. Delightful. Have now planned next step over the Simplon pass to stay in a small hotel in Chamonix, hoping to see Mont Blanc before the weather closes in. From there working our way back to the channel coast over 4-5 days. All fine and jalopy holding up so far - touch wood. Love to you all again. ...

      Lovely Lake Orta

You really 'Orta' come here if you can! It's really beautiful with lots of character and interest. We successfully caught the ferry and visited the Isola (Island) di San Giulio first although I got in the way of the captain on landing causing a slight problem with the ropes so not exactly endearing myself to him. The island itself consists of a central monastery inhabited by nuns ...
