Lake Malawi shore Lake Malawi National Park, Malawi
The last 2 nights camping have gone from one extreme to the next. From Zanzibar we headed back to Dar and stayed at Kipepeo campsite again....this was quite possibly the hottest night in the tent yet...seriously, despite the early start it was like a sauna in there. Most mornings I wake up absolutely freezing and I'm pretty sure that my sleeping bag was on sale due to the fact that it doesn't actually perform to 0.2 degrees as it's supposed to. I've tried everything from sleeping with minimal...
Chintheche, Malawi lindsayloubHey folks! Sorry it's been a while since my last posting but I've been busy busy, what with my afternoons & weekends being taken up with sunbathing & reading & going for walks...it's a stressful life! Went to the Lake of Stars Festival in the north of Malawi weekend before last, which was absolutely amazing, definately the best time I've had so far! Set off on Thursday afternoon, expecting to have to stop half way for the night but actually made it all the way. Had my very first b...
Monkey Bay, Malawi nickylooAfter another short drive dayvia Mzuzu, we arrive at Chinteche Inn next to the Lake again. Here we stayed for 3 nights, and again had a few chilled days by the beach. The first night was a punch night where we all chipped in $5 and Rach made a huge massive amount of punch. It was great, not helped along so much by the fact that it rained all evening, more rain than i have ever seen in my life.l In fact, after ages of trying not to get wet, i just gave up and ran about getting a proper outd...
Chinteche, Malawi rachellockeHad a fabulous party at Chintheche Inn. We each pulled a name out of the hat and had to buy a silly costume for that person for $5 from the local market in Mzuzu. I'm not sure what was more fun - buying the clothes or wearing them! I bought a lovely tartan lacy dress for my designated person, and helped buy the worst outfit in the world for our tour leader, Jorn. We bought a turquiose and purple polka dot ra-ra skirt (v v short) and a white lacy blouse. I hope to upload a photo soon, but no f...
Chintheche, Malawi rcoalesWhilst in Malawi we spent the morning at an orphanage where most of the children were under 5 years old. We were overcome with emotion when we saw 35 children standing in front of us looking so young and innocent. The children sang for us, we played games and we helped with their breakfast of maize. We left donations, sweets, pens and 2 footballs for the children who were extremely grateful. As we had experienced in Tanzania the children wanted to touch us ...
Lake Malawi, Village, Malawi longwayaround... and as a result don't gain the practical skills till much later, there's got to be a happy medium!
So the operating theatre here is a mental place. For a start its obviously fairly basic with very old equipment and is not particlarly clean. Looks a bit like what I'd have thought a uk operating theatre would look like in the 70s. I was in there most of the day usually doing the job of scrub nurse and assistant surgeon for the c-sections. You could say there were a few ...
... journey we were in a crazy pickup truck which I really am completely converted to as the ONLY way to travel! We were staying in Cape Maclear in a place called Gecko Lounge which was the most amazing place EVER! We had a little chalet RIGHT on the beach, with hammocks and duvets and even a toaster, happy happy day! Gecko was jsut the cutest place ever, it had the BEST restaurant and cute little bar and everything all made from wood it was SO cute! Me and Jo had ...
Cape Maclear, Malawi jennynewbold... bloody scary i litterally thought he'd died, so surreal with the rain and the carlights from the pick up behind us and Georgie screaming....s so scary!! but he was fine minus painful back..think the drink probably cushioned his fall aswell! apart from that lots of fun and the rain also added to the fun times. I also did some poi (flaming ball type swingy things which matt and ols have taught me) which i was loving, even when i did a tad of the leg smackage! Also ...
Cape Maclear, Malawi nickybushnell... or envy, only curiosity and interest. People
started smiling their beautiful radiant smiles when they saw me, and happily
posed for the camera or allowed me to take pictures of their sleeping
infants. And I had a few nice chats down there.
who needs an expensive Bug-a-boo??

... Lake. Crocodiles and hippos also cause a few deaths every year!! So you
can imagine that I sometimes felt a little paranoid whenever I felt some
current or a fish touching my leg!
But if you realise that Lake Malawi is about 500 kilometers long, you
can imagine that the risk of being eaten by a crocodile is minimal...
