The perfect Villa

The island of Rhodes has enticed artists, poets, musicians and writers for years. Seasonal visitors have been exploring this beautiful island for generations and continue to return year on year and it is easy to see why. Perhaps one of the reasons visitors return is the generous hospitality offered by the locals; perhaps it is the climate with t...

Lindos & Rhodes

In November, 2009, my Pastor husband was the group leader of 22 people on a tour of Israel, combined with a four day Agean cruise of the Greek Islands and Turkey. This was my third trip to Israel, but my first time in Greece and Turkey. It was also my first cruise.
After a sleepless last night in Israel, we arrived at Ben Guiron Airport at ...

The Hospital

After Living on the Island of Rhodes. Greek Isle, sorry I cannot remember the name of our hotel Resot. It was not directly on the beach, but was across they highway from a small piece of sand and of course water. The resrort had nice swimming pools and 2 person bungalows on some upper floor like 12th, 13th or 14th. After attending Law school her...

John

The next few blogs are of separate trips that we did: Sue to Rhodes in the Greek Isles (on her list of "must-do's!" for many, many years) and The Hague in the Netherlands (something she didn't DARE hope she could one day do), and John to Istanbul and Gallipoli in Turkey, a place I have always wanted to visit to acknowlege the great...

Rhodes Old City and a treasure of a museum

We safely navigated the trains from Rome airport to the port of Civitavecchia then boarded this fantastic brand new giant ship the Equinox. My descriptions would not do it justice so check out the Net. Our first port was Athens and it was teeming rain so, having visited the major sites before, we only went into the Plaka or marketplace and did a...

Palace of the Grand Master, swimming

We awoke at 9 and enjoyed a lazy morning, grabbing breakfast from a nearby bakery, before catching the 11-o-clock bus to Rhodes city. The bus ride took about an hour and in the sunlight we got to admire all the scenery we had missed the previous night. Rhodes is a strange, not quite Earthly landscape - rolling hills of sparse to moderate tree co...

We left Marmaris at 5:50...

... and we arrived at Rhodes around 6:45.

The ferry took us to Rhodes City, an old medieval city with much of its medieval architecture still intact. The wall around the city and the Palace of the Grand Master, a castle on a hill inside the city wall, were both very impressive sights. However, we were too hungry and thirsty - the last t...

Our Medieval Fortress City

Our next stop was Rhodes, one of our favorite sites. The morning colors on this walled medieval city were fabulous. Again we thoroughly explored the narrow alleyways before crowds were out and really saw great sites. The harbor area is beautiful and the city exudes history.

Goodbye Europe

August 28th - Rhodes, Greece

I awoke at half past three. We were docked at some large town - and had been for some time. Was this Rhodes ? I ran down to the lower deck looking for someone to ask, anyone. But the ship was deserted. I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror. I looked like the Wild man of Borneo, I thought. Eventually I fou...
