... respect from the macho uniformed racer types. They stop and acknowledge us instead of wanting to squash us like a bug as they usually do when we aren't loaded with gear. We have also realized that even though our bikes weigh a ton, it really doesn't make that much difference once you start peddling. It's hard getting up the hills with or without all the gear and if that's what it takes to earn respect from the machos then I'm going to always carry panniers even if they are just stuffed with paper. The pier been decked out with wrought iron arches and street lighting thanks to the generosity of a local family. The windows at the beach museum are being used as frames for historical photos that go back to the 1800’s. Rick has been coming to this beach his entire life, so it is interesting to see how much, and how little, it has changed.

... a good deal of time here in Ephesus (letters to the Ephesians) and the house ascribed to Mary is where she was brought by John, the Gospel writer, in her later life. In truth, the house open to tourists is not an original building, but dates to the 6th Century AD. A red mark outside is the demarkation of the original foundation. Beside the house is a kind of prayer wall, similar to that of Jerusalem, where people write their prayers and stuff them into the stone wall. A ...

Jennifer's day off so we all went into Victoria to check out the city. It's not a huge city but it's well set out, very British looking and on a beautiful harbour. On BC Day apparently, they have a floating pontoon in the harbour and the Victorian Symphony Orchestra play a free concert-1812 Overture complete with cannon fire. Would be great to see. Jennifer took us through the Fairmont Empress Hotel-old but ...
