Ruta Nac. 52 Km 4 1/2 Purmamarca, Province of Jujuy, Northern Argentina, Argentina
... town with masses of history still practice the trades of their ancestors. Small narrow cobbled streets leading to a square, beautiful church and steps up to the Heroes of the Independence monument which pays homage to the Northern Argentine Army that fought numberous battles.
Along the side of the steps are many artesan stalls including two Argentinian hippies selling amazing jewellery. He worked on the metals and incorporated items he had found ...
... had sussed why the driver did not want to come any further - it would cost him money so the Argentinian said he would pay. We picked up Ian on the way.
How happy we were to be in Argentina with all our luggage?
Roman our guide had packed a picnic for about thirty people so we got stuck in and after sorting out the passports, paying tax etc we were off. Our first port of call was the Salinas Grande, Argentina's salt flats. They process the ...
In order to better appreciate the wonderful scenary of Northwestern Argentina, you need at least two days to visit the main highlights spending a night in an Andean village - this is exactely what we did ! Km 15020 - San Antonio de los Cobres (3775m) As the Tren a Las Nubes wasn´t running, we followed it´s itinerary all the way from Salta to San Antonio de las Cobres. The road follows the train tracks almost through the ...
Purmamarca, Northern Argentina, Argentina jhoekstra79... mooolt semblant. Espectacular!
Purmamarca, Northern Argentina, Argentina mariaandeva... Salta to La Quebrada de Humahuaca and Purmamarca. The road rules in this area seem very flexible, with the only rule at intersections seeming to be get there first and passing on double yellow lines with no visibility the norm. The speed limits throughout Argentina are a waste of time, with traffic often flowing at 3 times the posted limit. We survived the first day driving on roads ...
Purmamarca, Northern Argentina, Argentina lunamiel... that it would be fine and the shower head came off in their hands, the 2 girls voted against that hostel (anyway, it had a grumpy owner). I think the boys thought that the beds in that place would be more comfy but eventually they caved to the girls. The beds in the place that we chose turned out to be fine (luckily as Tristan is - understandably- not a happy boy when he hasn`t been able to sleep). The place we stayed was also a bar/restaurant ...
Purmamarca, Northern Argentina, Argentina rebecca.rose... of unidentifiable variety, and organs too...like liver, ovaries...I don't know what else. I ask them to leave off the organ meat. I mean who wants to eat ovaries? When I've dissected them, they don't look particularly suited to the grill. But then it's all what you're accustomed to. And I'm not accustomed to eating ovaries. But the parilla is great if a table full of red meat only is your thing... .you don't ...
Salta, Argentina rawhideone... go something like this: All villages in the Quebrada de Humahuaca MUST have - 1. a church - small, white, at least one bell tower. 2. a football field - grass not required. 3. houses that are primarily rectangle shaped, with 2 windows and 1 door on the front. You can choose the colour, but you must be different from your neighbour. 4. a plaza - so that, in the future, locals have somewhere to sell souvenirs to tourists. 5. streets must ...
Tilcara, Argentina brettelmer... asked for 60 days hoping the guy wouldn't look up Australia on his list. he did, as we got 30 days. Pocitos and the other side of the border are again like chalk and cheese. Bolivia typical 3rd world, the other side striving to get into the first. And all lying between them a river full of rubbish and stinking of urine. We have to say that Bolivians are far more friendly and ...
