... It was a typical cool, clear mountain desert morning. In the car, Alex made an unusual discovery - there were no buttons to drive the windows up and down. For the first time in his life, he saw a car with a crank for the windows. Funny how we take technology for granted.

... on our trip, apart from what I've mentioned already we've also encountered many deer. We were following the river again from there, to our next stop at Davenport and the National Mississipi River Museum and Aquarium. The drive into town was disconcerting with numerous pawn brokers, strip clubs and tattoo parlours in quite a run down neighbourhood. ... look around downtown. It's amazing the things you can learn, even after 16 years of living somewhere. We never knew that it was a Holy Week tradition to go to seven "monuments" (Catholic Churches) and recite prayers. In Bogota, because most people have the day off on Good Friday, that is when they do this. We found ourselves in crowds of tens of thousands of people walking from church to church to read certain prayers at each one!
