Four Hours in London

... was peaceful and broken up by a full breakfast. Once again, Ashley slept. In fact, she didn’t even notice we went under the English Channel. The Chunnel was very cool. We were underground for about 11 minutes and my ears kept popping. When we emerged on the other side we were in London.

St. Pancras Station is like a mall, so we did some shopping. We then went and dropped our ...

A Day in London 1

... part of 20 minutes and realised that we had not past a bin in a long long time. So we searched, and searched and searched for a refuse desposal facility, to no avail. Apparently, the bins are terrorist aids and they cannot give them crazy people any hint of an advantage, so...NO BINS! Cause you can leave bombs in there, but not, say, in a bush...retarded.

Bath by Bus

... was nice to get a real honest perspective form the locals on some things and there is still anger from hundreds of years ago for some things. One of the guys was in the Fusiliers and he talked about when the Queen Mum had died how they had been her regiment and how they had cried all day. It was very interesting imagining all those rough tough soldiers walking around all day crying. I very shortly went upstairs to bed as I was too tired to stay awake any longer.

London: Nothing to Declare

... probably wishing she'd stayed at home in New Orleans where people have the good sense to know that you don't turn on the heater when it's in the 50s. You've probably only recently turned off the air-conditioner for the season . Some other Americans, from further back in the bus, ask the driver if he can turn the heat down (by the way, he has had his sizable window open the entire time). He says he can't, but that there are vents in the roof that can be opened. Who ...

On our way to Devon

... our way to accommodation near the airport. Next morning, after a 13 pound ($30Aus) taxi fare to the airport, 10 minutes away, we collected a hire car, and headed off towards Stover. We chose the scenic route, down the M5 motorway, and stopped to see Stonehenge. It was certainly an amazing site, and thanks to Jenn's National Heritage membership, free to visit (13 pounds saved there). I couldn't help thinking if this was in America ...

London, August 6, 2006 - Sunday

... spent most of the rest of Sunday in Regent's Park. Eventually I didn't go to the zoo at all. I have no idea why. I was mostly just sitting on the grass, a bit aside so that I was not in the way for the people who were playing football, and they were just about everywhere. I felt like playing it myself, but my football days were over. So I would just return them their balls here and there if they went astray and rolled away far, which meant my way. I also watched airplanes fly ...

A crazy day, in Londontown

It must have been my lucky night... an empty plane from Johannesburg to Heathrow, and three seats to myself. I slept like a baby, and awoke refreshed and rejuvinated and a few thousand kilometers from home this morning. For the most part I felt relaxed, but every now and then the magnitude of this big move had my stomach in a little knot. Not to mention the interview at 1pm... my first one in 7 years! After a lovely breakfast with my cousin ...

Goodnight Sweetheart, Well It's Time to Go!

... about 30 candles, and we sang the Taizé chants, with simple prayers and meditations intermixed between the songs. It was nice to have some time just to sit and reflect. Afterward we stayed for tea & biscuits and talked with some of the young people there. It wasn't as amazing to me as the Austin one, but I enjoyed it none the less. (Note: Next Taizé in Austin- Sept. 21) We went to Hampstead for a dessert ...
