Today our port excursion is "Best of Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain" and is for 6 hours. Bar Harbor is nestled on the northeast tip of Maine's Mount Desert Island and we are anchored in Frenchman Bay, and have to be tendered to the pier. We drove through the small town of Bar Harbor (similar to Skagway), with its cafes, restaurants and specialty shops and once again, the wooden houses and hotels of the town had all been ...

... for the meal I sent back. For us this was a 2/5.

Next day we went to the Café This Way on Rodick Street to get lobster rolls. Well, we paid nearly $50 US for two lobster rolls on hot dog buns with chips (not fries) just chips. Waaaayyyyy overpriced! And again only so-so… maybe 3/5. Enough said..

The final night of our stay at Bar Harbour we decided to take another chance and treat ourselves to Italian…Mama DiMatteo’s – one word - Devine!!! It ...

... Center when everyone is huddled up as if they are embarking on an arctic expedition. They’ll all be sorry when it's boiling hot later on, won’t they?

I have thought many times about taking a trip to Acadia National Park. The descriptions of the craggy coasts, gently sloping mountains and friendly people have long appealed to me. So this year I am finally here! Today was a whole day of traveling so not much to report on other than some observations about various points in my day.

A Whale Hunting I will go

... How disappointing. It was a wonderful boat ride, the captain and his assistant were fabulous hosts, and it was great to be on the water on a day when the cruise ships had unloaded fifty gazillion people into the tiny town of Bar Harbor, spoiling and kind of enjoyable sightseeing on shore. But I really missed seeing my whale. Can't check that one off the bucket list, and least not this trip! But you can't win them all, and I'm not going to let it spoil my trip!
