... today, as we didn't see the sun til we got to the castle, or Ranch, as Hearst referred to it. Hundreds of Elephant Seals off the coast, and these are only the females and juveniles. ... Alfa while towing the Jeep, and means we won't have to make the 'pull' from Santa Maria north with a full 150 gallons of fuel---good since there will be grades. Fuel definitely isn't 'inexpensive' in CA but I'll just take a nitro pill before I put the nozzle in the tank and I should be OK.

... sushi bar for our first real experience of sushi which was quite pleasant. We had a few different things including a dish called California that had crab and avocado, but our favorite one was called after the town, Atascadero and had eel, shrimp and a lovely sweet sauce.
