... was absent, a great pier, water teeming with fish and pelicans diving to catch them and most of all a beach with great breakers and lifeguards.

We had some food and a leisurely stroll down the pier with nature photography by Tom- some cracking photos/ video.

Then the swim of a lifetime. As ever Ruth and James in first and by the time Tom joined them James was bleeding from grazes (good shark decoy) and Ruth ...

... out the elephant seal colony at Piedras Blancas which is currently 7,500 strong. The lookout and walkways along the low cliff gets you up pretty close to the seals sprawling over a mile or more of coastline. It was blowing a gale and quite cool. At this time of the year the colony is made up of adult females and younger males and females - the big males being away at sea. Still there was a fair amount of action and bickering going on along the beach.

... are the best on the West Coast and again we can't argue. After cocktails, wine Desserts and the best view ever our collective is that it's the best Restaurant we've ever been to. The price matched the experience but all of our food and drink was locally sourced and it deserved the price tag. A lie in tomorrow to sleep off all this food and drink before our next seaside adventure in Laguna ...

... Alfa while towing the Jeep, and means we won't have to make the 'pull' from Santa Maria north with a full 150 gallons of fuel---good since there will be grades. Fuel definitely isn't 'inexpensive' in CA but I'll just take a nitro pill before I put the nozzle in the tank and I should be OK.

We pulled off the 101 to check out the Elks at Pismo Beach and check out some places our friend Leonard ...

... up in bed....unfortunetly my bed tonight is a sofa bed with about two springs left in it.....the matress squeeks as I turn over and it bends not only at the top and bottom but in the middle. Basically if I dont wake up with a trapped nerve ill be lucky and If I dont need a wheelchair it will be a miricle!
Suppose you cant have luxurious beds every night eh?? hope Natalie and Arno are having a wonderful sleep next door!
