          A fascinating drive thru a desert

          ... of hours this time through the Mojave Desert. It was fascinating with large boulders in places, perhaps placed there when the road was constructed.
          Hills of varying sizes as well which surprised me. Here's me thinking a desert is flat!
          Different varieties of cactus growing where not much else can.

          Barstow is really a stop over for us, to let Paul relax before the next destination Las Vegas!

          Hasta laVista Vegas....We'll be back!

          ... once again into the time warp. The original diner from 1937 consisted of 9 stools at the counter and 3 booths. Today it is more than 5 times that size but the walls are covered in movie memorabilia. Peggy Sue worked in the movie industry hence the great collection. There is a fabulous souvenir shop attached that sold so much stuff. We spent ages just looking around and then decided to have lunch in the diner. Once again the service was so fast, the staff ...

          ... on Facebook. We ate lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp on the pier. What a fun place and beautiful big beach.
          Rhett, I took the picture of the snake for you. It was a little bigger than the one you almost stepped on at the campground!
          Santa Monica Pier is the unofficial end of Route 66 so that was our destination. There is also a plaque dedicated to Will Rogers ...

          ... was, we all had the freaking chicken! We didn't have a choice you muppets" So now we're actually in a real life version of the film "airplane" I was half expecting Leslie Nielsen to walk out and another 30 to 40 people to fall ill but thankfully this is where the madness stopped. No more casualties. Pheeeeww. The rest of the flight was pretty normal and before we knew it we were touching down in sunny LAX. Security was the normal 3 hour shuffle through a queue ...
