Once we got back to the hotel, I realized that it was a terrible idea to wear a skirt in a convertible on a mini road trip through the desert. My entire body was so sunburned! We got back to the hotel, Pete patted me down with vinegar and aloe vera, and we ordered Thai delivery so we could heal our skin in the more casual environment of our room.

First day in the desert so we decided to do one of the easier trails. The guides at the Park Visitor Center recommended Palm Canyon, described as a "moderate" 3 mile round trip. Or 6 miles if you decided not to pay the $8 car park charge and walked all the way from the Visitor Center. So which did we three do? Yep. 6 miles in broiling sun. We stayed at the State Park campground and hiked the Palm Oasis Canyon. It was a fairly short hike but the highlights were the oasis and sighting of the Big Horned Sheep. They are magnificent animals.

After two nights In Anza Borrego State Park, rain chased us onward to Palm Springs. Rain is quite an event in this dessert so we did not complain. ...
