    ... on to Wakefield a further 2 hours on where we found an overnight camping place on the Sunday Lake. It was a really sweet place with power for hook ups and water taps. It was just before 11 before we were finally ready to call it a in night along with 4 other vehicles already parked there. Today we drove just over 1200kms even with a boarder ...

    ... overwhelmed them. And, it put us behind another hour today.

    Fourth stop - Sable Falls, also very beautiful.

    Fifth stop - Miner's castle -my favorite stop. Overlook at the painted rocks cove. Gorgeous also.

    We had 170 miles to go to get to Ironwood, so we had to boogie! Made it to the hotel at around 2000 hours (1900 local with the time change).

    Approx. 400 miles ...

    ... and I just knew we would hit. Then the deer sprang into the air and flew right over the Mini. Technically we hit it, but just barely. One of the deer's rear hooves clipped my side mirror and knocked it askew. When we got stopped I checked for damage, but it was just the mirror out of adjustment. I think we were very lucky. Our little car wouldn't survive a collision with a deer at speed. Tonight we are in Ironwood, MI. There isn't much to say about Ironwood I'm afraid. Karen and ...

    ... night we hung by the fire with our new friends, who we will continue to keep in touch with, and maybe even meet them out on the road during the year.

    Unfortunately we missed a lot of what the Porcupines had to offer in the backcountry via backpacking, but the park is well worth a trip for anyone who is looking for remote wilderness, steeper terrain and beautiful waterfalls. We have already decided our next trip here will include a backpacking trip to more remote areas. ...

    ... deer, pristine woods, peace. Untouched by man, no man made structure anywhere from lookout to Lake of the Clouds. Park road took us next to Lake Superior shoreline, got out of the car-really pretty-calm and clear, clean water. Both surprised that each time we saw Superior it was as calm as a mill pond (unlike Lake Michigan which was windy most all the time).
