... and I just knew we would hit. Then the deer sprang into the air and flew right over the Mini. Technically we hit it, but just barely. One of the deer's rear hooves clipped my side mirror and knocked it askew. When we got stopped I checked for damage, but it was just the mirror out of adjustment. I think we were very lucky. Our little car wouldn't survive a collision with a deer at speed. Tonight we are in Ironwood, MI. There isn't much to say about Ironwood I'm afraid. Karen and ...

Neither Lou nor I have ever been to the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, which is actually surprising given the amount of backpacking we have done. The director signed the camp up on warmshowers, and luckily there is no overnight program today, so I get to stay in the bunkhouse, a large, clean, carpeted room with several bunks, lights, power and wifi! I got on the bike a bit after 6am today with cloudy skies, but dry ground. That ...

... every once in a while.

Everything was capped off by a 4th of July caliber fireworks show at a place deep in the woods called “The Spot”. A half mile drive down an over grown country trail, there is a small clearing where the locals hang out. An array of mortars, sparklers, roman candles and rockets ended not only one of the best evenings in the up north woods, but definitely the best vacation/road trip/adventure ...
