Black Horse Inn Warrenton

I made a fantastic discovery yesterday. A full-fledged Asian supermarket, tucked away in Northern Virginia. The produce section had persimmons, actual proper persimmons that looked edible, as opposed to the faded and mushy ones that you usually find in mainstream supermarkets, if they're present at all. There was baby bok choi for 99 cents a pound, and big jars of kimchee for a little over $3. People stared at me when I went for the kimchee. I ...

... behind a bunch of planes, I can feel the heat emanating from the engines. They're all about ready to take off. I imagine my head getting completely vaporized because some pilot pushed the wrong button at precisely the wrong moment, and I run screaming, behind him, terrified.

Meanwhile, the other people are yelling and screaming at me like I'm going to accidentally set off a nuclear holocaust out there.

So I just... freeze... and scream some more... not a cool ...

... One interesting thing that I ate on the plane was a bowl of instant ramen noodles. Never seen this before. I guess they do this for all flights into Asia. One other interesting thing I noticed as I looked out the window was that it was daylight the whole flight. Well that certainly won't help with my inability to sleep on planes.

We didn't make it to Virginia Beach yet, when It got to be 11 we needed a rest. Were starting fresh tomorrow!

... by corn stalks, with clues along the way. I kept waiting for the Harry-Potter-esque monsters to come out and duel, but I think they were on strike. We made it through the maze in about 45 minutes, and the maze monitor whose job it is to fetch the people who are hopelessly lost, was impressed. She said the average was an hour to an hour and a half.

... nye danske aupaire i mit område, så det bliver herligt! Mandag går børnene ind i deres 4. uge af sommerferien ( Ja, jeg tæller ned!!). Det er lidt hårdt at være sammen med dem 10 timer hver dag, men jeg prøver så vidt muligt at finde nogen de kan lege med og så er det slet ikke så slemt. Og poolen er også en stor hjælp! I næste uge skal Nicolas i magic-camp, så det bliver en af de nemmere uger! Håber I alle har det godt hjemme i DK! XOXO Natascha

... kan roligt sige at de ikke er generte her! I dag kl 4 skal jeg til mit første au pair-møde hos min counsler. Så der får jeg chancen for at møde alle pigerne i mit område. Ellers er det der ikke så meget at fortælle tror jeg. I morgen skal jeg møde Pete, som er børnenes far, for første gang. Jeg skal over og hente Nicolas og Jessica hos ham og køre dem til skole og hente dem igen bagefter. Håber alt er godt derhjemme! Ha' det smukt. Tjøs fra Natascha

... undoubtedly will press for their rapid removal. There were many people sunning themselves on the grassy banks of the Hudson on September 3. I couldn't resist this tableau: young woman with (untethered) parrot. After I took the picture, the woman opened one eye and squinted at me as if she were wearing an eyepatch. That would have made a funnier picture, but this'll have to suffice.

My first taste of driving in the USA. Had a nice rental car and went around looking at the countryside. Visited the Manassas National Park. Listened to station W-AVA n the radio and started my cultural education of America - Andeker and Michelob beer, new words (hub caps meaning wheels)
