We found our beachside campsite in Hiawatha Park of Lake Michigan just ten miles or so after crossing the Mackinaw Bridge. We are on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our tent is pitched, it's about 72 degrees. The girls are all wound up, so it's a good to stop and let them burn off some energy running from our campsite in the woods down the ...

It was the most amazing feeling, the town was busy in the morning already, but it is a slow life, no rushing, just walking, biking, drivers of the carriages and cargo wagons, visiting back and forth and waiting for riders, or cargo to be unloaded. ... We walked among them flying around eating from flowers and bananas.

There is a fancy hotel on the island called The Grand Hotel which was quite stunning. We knew we would not be able to fit in there since it cost $10.00 just to go inside if you are not a registered guest. This hotel sits close to the Governor of Michigan's summer home so you see how "uptown" this setting is!

The tour continued on to the ...

We purchased a ferry and a horse carriage ride ticket for our day on the island which covers 3.8 square miles (9.8 km2) in land area. It is located in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. European exploration began in the 17th century. It served a strategic position amidst the commerce of ...
