... find our train already in and waiting. Wonderful!! We look at our tickets and realise our seats are not adjacent - oops - so we get on board using our torch as the power isn't on yet and find that life isn't too bad. We have one bed/seat one side of the train and one directly opposite. We settle down on the seat and Martin wonders whether we will have this little bit to ourselves, I laugh and prepare to meet our travelling companions. Nothing happens ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India hazelandmartin... encourage a life of begging and so Isobel developed a great solution by buying fruit and giving it to the kids rather than money.
Now on the train, the beggars jump on at one station and jump off at the next some 30 minutes later. Actually on this particular train journey I don't think many jumped on or off in a physical way as they were unable to do so. Whilst not wanting to belittle these poor unfortunate people, but it really was like a freak show for the ...
... When we are stopped in traffic women and children will come and knock on the window and beg us for food. Some of them will be hurt to try to get sympathy and the children are always really pathetic looking. It’s sometimes hard to say no but we have learnt to harden ourselves on our travels as this is common but no help to the country. It actually frustrates me when people do give the beggars money as they ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India edandali... over her upper arms, and it appeared to be stuck. No problem, one of them pinched Judith, got her wiggling around and finally got the skirt in place. More laughter. Now the rest of the gold jewelry was added and Judith posed with the 2 women. Great series of pictures. While we were all laughing, Judith waved goodbye and make like she was leaving with all the gold. No panic, the women waved goodbye and laughed. Judith returned ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India juanitobosque... of variety, colour and noise at the centre of which stood a clock tower erected by the British in the 19th century. The next day's main visit was to see the Bishnoi, a Hindu sect who continue to live in a tribal way, albeit they do not live in one village but in their own family designated areas. We drove out of Jodhpur and went through several small villages. These were very ramshackle affairs all with narrow paved roads going ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India jbscott36... we could have walked here though a short cut from the street. You just walk up the sand dunes. Once at Camel Camp we splurged for their set lunch. It was very good! The service was great and they would have just kept feeding us all day if we wanted! We decided to take a camel ride after lunch, but they needed to prepare the camel and told us to go hang out by the pool. The pool is great and we ended up ...

Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India mariatanzania... why did we even believe him?? I was too ill to care. Slept most of the day and then we left that night, all i saw of jodhpur was a hostel room, it's roof top restaurant, one street and the station. The others who did explore seemed to like it but they said it wasn't amazing or exciting so i don't feel i missed out on anything but sleeping, plus i needed to get better, a valid excuse i think.
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India aliealexander... you can choose from for a color which will match the sari. then you buy that material and take it somewhere else to a tailor (neither sari shops nor matching centers actually have tailors). here you drop it off, describe the type of blouse that you want (deep-necked, belted, shorter sleeves, etc...a vast variety of options that mean a difference of perhaps one or two inches of fabric in the overall design of a blouse), he takes your measurements, and then you wait ...
Jodhpur, India lmlangfWe are leaving Jodhpur today Woohoo! I've liked the hotel and the owner and her sons are lovely, they have been so kind to us, but the place itself oh I dunno there's something I don't like about it. Must just be me, everyone else I've spoken with who has been here has liked it. I think that after Jaisalmer here seems dirty and smelly like Delhi. Anyway we didn't have breakfast in the hotel this morning we went to the SHIVHAM again. Pancakes & coffee for me, scrambled eggs on toast for DK ...
