ZERMATT TO LONDON

A travel blog entry by nancya on Oct 08, 2014

... such a problem except it is rush hour . Who knew how many people could push their way into the subway car and doors still close. Imagine even more people cram in at the next stops and then the struggle of leaving with suitcases! AND it is pouring rain. Alas this isn't Switzerland! But we did have a good dinner at the Norfolk Arms (which we first visited with Peter and Pat ...

... their yellow fall colours. The rivers and lakes are coloured by glacial flour and a milky turquoise. The buildings have slate roofs often with orange lichen growing on them and some of the buildings are perched on stilts with flat slate rocks which are to keep the mice out apparently. Later we visit the Matterhorn museum and learn more about the climbers and the way of life of the people of Zermatt. It will be sad to leave ...

When we looked back, this pitch is off the front of the glacier and we have no idea how they make the run and keep it open. I looked back and took a couple of pictures but it is certainly more spectacular when you are close to it.
We then moved off to try the T-bar at mid mountain, so we had a fast traverse down a ...

... skis on and set off.

Part way down the first narrow track we came to a piece of run which was cordoned off. Overnight a crevasse has opened up in the side of the run, emphasizing just how precarious the off piste skiing is on a glacier. There are signs saying not to leave the run but this was quite a large reminder.

We skied down beautifully groomed runs to the bottom of one of the top T-bars and went up the hill to the very top. The cloud cleared ...
