... there is" and "there's going to be a big dump next tuesday" but every day we would get up and be greeted by stunning blue skies. The winds picked up late in the 2nd week which combined with -15degrees on the mountain made for some pretty tough conditions. Sal got frostbite on her nose and fingers and one afternoon we got stuck on the mountain as the 80kmh winds forced all the cable cars and chairlifts to shut. Fortunately there is a train that could get ...

We started our day opening our curtains to the majestic Matterhorn!! What a way to start the day!! The splendour of God's creation is awesome!! Had to take photos even though it was -4 deg!! We had breakfast and set off for the Matterhorn with great excitement. We made our way casually to get our tickets for the train up the mountain to view the Matterhorn. When we went to purchase them we found out we got a discount if we ...

Today dawned more cloudy than previous days but we headed up the hill anyway. We had to be packed and out of the room before we left so we were both up early. We caught the usual bus and made it onto the hill quickly and we planned to ski with John for the day and George joined us later. In fact we started skiing at the very top earlier than yesterday.

We met up with the route we usually took down from the top and entered a great steep pitch. When we looked back, this pitch is off the front of the glacier and we have no idea how they make the run and keep it open. I looked back and took a couple of pictures but it is certainly more spectacular when you are close to it.
We then moved off to try the T-bar at mid mountain, so we had a fast traverse down a ...

Piste perfect - a fantastic day on groomers

... skis on and set off.

Part way down the first narrow track we came to a piece of run which was cordoned off. Overnight a crevasse has opened up in the side of the run, emphasizing just how precarious the off piste skiing is on a glacier. There are signs saying not to leave the run but this was quite a large reminder.

We skied down beautifully groomed runs to the bottom of one of the top T-bars and went up the hill to the very top. The cloud cleared ...
