    The America's Cup is the
    oldest continuously awarded trophy in the world. It predates the American Civil
    War. Between 1851 and 1983, the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) won every race and
    boldly bolted the cup to a stand in their trophy room.

    Although it
    was many years ago now it still rates as a great achievement by an underdog.

    ... around the corner to the nearest beach, at Lewis Bay. We enjoyed a nice walk up and down (lovely to be barefoot in sand again!) admiring the view and trying to imagine it packed with people in summer. It was basically deserted except for a couple of guys in waders heading out with specialised rakes and buckets. We figured they were off to gather some of the famous local clams, which made us jealous and hungry!
