City of Quebec

There was little life on the empty streets of the Old Town which became old probably hundreds of years ago and never came back to life again. Sleepy cafes with strangely impotent coffee, bored prostitute on the stairs of the Museum of American Civilization, an ice rink with cheerful French music from municipal loud speakers but few skaters around - hardly a better place to spend another hundred years in lethargic oblivion.

Mahlzeit!

Tour of Old Quebec

The stories of Quebec City being a piece of Europe located right here in Canada are so true. The buildings, the streets and the shops are intriguing and offer much to explore. We board a free electric shuttle that motors all through old Quebec. We venture ...

En-route to our Canada New England Cruise

We depart mid afternoon to Toronto and catch a delayed connection to Quebec City to arrive very late Thursday evening. Our stay is at a the Hotel Chateau Laurier, a mid range full service hotel adjacent to the Military Armoury. The room is small but the price is just right. There is a St Hubert Chicken in the Hotel - this place also serves breakfast.

... concrete curbs. Mike and I had reached our physical limits with all the scrambling around at the Citadel so, when the cart passed within a block of where we had parked our vehicles we abandoned ship and left the others to finish the ride. This is how we came to spend an hour and a half sitting in a vehicle forty feet underground in a parking lot at the base of a government building in Quebec City adding up our Visa receipts. As I said, Quebec City never really had a chance.

... too, and they are very good. It was nice to be somewhere where the locals celebrate their national day (as opposed to NZ where it is just another day off for most, and a day of protest for others). In the province of Quebec however, Canada Day is widely ignored, and in fact it is "moving day" for a lot of people. The leases on apartments all expire on June 30 so on July 1 people move apartments.

Anyway, the next day I got the train to Moncton ...

... levels of the CSM trails we choose to continue our training at the “easy to intermediate” area of Gatineau Park around the Relais Plein Air. Here the trails are mostly level with a gentle incline up to Lac Pink (so called because it used to belong to the Pink family). Relais Plein Air also has the advantage of a friendly ski hire shop where the helpful, and bilingual, staff ensure that you get the proper fittings of boots, skis and poles.

Day Two - the fun begins!!

... already late for class and my key kept jumping out of its holder and getting lost on the floor! I also almost managed to loose my food key at lunchtime, by leaving it at the table - perhaps I should have said white rabbits! In the afternoon we had our 'ateliers' (workshops). I was VERY upset that they had cancelled the circus skills one =(. So I signed up for a random one - 'improvisation'. We played games and stuff, it's quite a ...

Day 10 Quebec City QC

... at Quebec City around 4:30 pm. We are staying at the Hilton just outside the 'walled city'. I used my free award certificate and because I have a gold card, was upgraded to a suite on the 16th floor overlooking the city.. The room was hugh... even has a butlers kitchen with separate entrance. Chatting with our bellhop, we told him we will be going to Moncton next, he said he's from Moncton.. - small world, he recommends a place called Captain Dan's ...
