On My Way

... to set me on the right path to load for Edmonton. I was able to spend half an hour on the phone with Lee before my flight was called. The trip to Edmonton was uneventful. In the airport I was told I would have to gather my three checked bags and transfer them to Canadian North. I was already hauling around a backpack loaded with a 10 lb bag of onions and two large bags of red peppers (my new principal told me he ...

The end of the road and the crazy cabin murderer

... food from. I'm imagining that Keith has already been bludgeoned with a blunt instrument and now Bruce is coming for me. I don't even have a set of keys for the car! I'm completely helpless!

Keith and Bruce bring back stewing beef and some vegetables and we cook a stew in the slowly setting sunlight. I didn't see the package the meat came in, so I'm imagining the meat is from his former houseguests, the ones that had to leave so fast last time. Oh god, I'm probably going to eat ...

Lightning storm and no beer on Sunday

... to sneakily steal a spot in the shade. As soon as a couple of people left, we grabbed their dirty table and lounged in the corner for what seemed like hours, until our waitress came. I ordered some musk ox which tasted like roast beef, but with a little bit of a stronger taste. Yum. After a really long time, waiting for our bill, etc. BTW I'm not complaining, it was lovely to finally find some shade, at last, SOMEWHERE! It figures we had to ...

Well i don't feel like writing much so heres the summery. Day 1 Departed after work, got out of the city around 5pm and B-lined it North with my 2 French Canadien Traveling companions. When we arrived in peace river roughly 4 hours away we seen a bear and a 12 foot Davis burial site, He really wasn't 12 feet but found 1200 worth of gold in the late 1800's In the photos its the stone with a great view... It's What Outside?? R U Kidding Me!

... took Tristen a minute to realize who it was at the door. She looked a bit stunned, but then the reality and realization kicked in and she talked our bloody ears off!!! It was so endearing and charming. Elaine had plugged the truck in, so I fired it up to go get some groceries and video's before we got too comfortable in a warm home. Tristan continued to talk our ear off for some time to come. She was soooooo excited and her smile showed it ...

Frigid in Yellowknife - a final entry .....

... Christmas carol I heard most was "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" and I laughed to myself because they would have to keep dreaming.... while in Yellowknife it is a given Christmas will be white! I had a marvellous year travelling, starting in New York city at the Rolling Stones Concert in ...

Dempster Highway - The Drive to Eagle Plains

... the nearby mountains. The whole scene was topped by the azure sky hanging above like a giant swath of brilliant blue paint. Like my trip through Alaska, there was a disappointing lack of wildlife. Only frequent signs warning of the presence of horses on the road held out a promise of animals to be seen. This eventually proved to be the case when I passed a small ranch with horses along the side of the highway. The Dempster continued to gently climb as it ...

Fort Simpson to Yellowknife - Day 4

... the Deh Cho First Nation, I was naturally interested in finding out a little bit about his life. A few minutes into the conversation revealed that summer for him was just a season to put up with until winter arrived. Winter allowed him the freedom of living the life style he loved. This meant roaming the frozen lakes and forests with his beloved dog team in the pursuit of his passion for hunting and trapping. I mentioned my concerns about ...

Survivor: Great Slave Lake

... were already there, and Chuck radioed down and found out they hadn't left on their hunting trip yet, so we decided to head out to the East Arm of Great Slave Lake, the second destination that we'd gotten a quote for. The area was just gorgeous, with great cliffs, rugged terrain with countless coves and inlets. We found one beach and circled around to look for nearby wildlife. Andrea saw a bear so we moved farther along to a second beach and made a landing. The ...
