Puerto Angel and Interior Oaxaca

... a bus to Puerto Escondido. The ride was bad heading to Miahuatlan and we can only imagine how it will be going in the opposite direction. More than 15 years ago, Amy did this same trip on her way to live with a Mexican family in Salina Cruz. Eight hours from Oaxaca on winding roads. This weekend Carnaval is being celebrated all over Mexico so we booked a hotel in Puerto Escondido for the weekend. Usually rooms cost a lot more if you book over the ...

Huatulco - Last Destination on the Pacific Coast

... After a while there comes the realization that Huatulco is more a region than a single town.

La Crucecita is one of the four areas of urbanization in the Huatulco region. The other three are Santa Cruz, a cute little beach town, Tangolunda, location of most resorts and Chahué, located right next to Santa Cruz. All are within a few kilometers of each other and can be easily reached by bus or taxi.

The rugged beauty of the ...

... took 10 minutes we headed down to the beach for the balance of the day and then cruised to El Alquimista http://www.el-alquimista.com/ for dinner which was brilliant with torches lit after dark on practically its own private beach. Frozen margaritas (and other miscellaneous cocktails for Becs) with feet in the sand till late in the night before the dash around the rocks on the way home was just the Mexican ...

... on to the beach! 25 a night Cal, just keeping you informed of the figures...hehe So we spent a beautiful two nights there, just reading, eating, drinking, sunning, swimming and drinking. The beach was beautiful, lots of dogs of course, one that looked very similar to Vana, happily trotting around and fetching old plastic Coke bottles from the sea when thrown by someone - probably the owner but I was never sure. The food was fantastic, had lots of ...

Mexico--NOT

... due to high winds that made it unsafe to go into port. Instead we had to content ourselves with the usual table upstairs (outside near the pizza) for lunch. We hung out by the pool until the wind drove us inside. Then we retired to the card room for a game of pinochle and some Game Boy. Not Mexico indeed.

... Ocean on the southern coast of Mexico. There is not much to do there... at all. No fancy resorts, no parasailing, no night clubs, no throngs of tourists assuming that everyone speaks english. Our hostel was perched atop a rock wall right on the beach, and we had absolutely beautiful weather every day we were there for 4 days. The sunrises were stunning, and one evening we hiked over the hills on the west side of the beach with the Mariosh ...

... wanted to be sure of the number of people involved before he would agree a price and this was complicated by the fact that others were keen to join in. Eventually we had no option but to exclude any additions in order to agree on pricing but once underway we had an excellent time. As we left the port two things became clear - there were endless numbers of pelicans around, so lots of pictures of these chaps ...

More About My Life in México

... the beach, for my break. The planning was better and I just want to relax. The host family of a girl here has an apartment on the beach that we´re going to rent for 4 nights. I can´t wait! I don´t really know what else to right except that if you ever come to Oaxaca or México, realize that pedestrians do NOT have the right of way here. Your life is in your hands! LOL. Yeah, we got used to that real quick like...:) I´m posting pictures! You should look at them!

LOST

Hola from the internet cafe in Crucerita, Bahias de Huatulco. The kid in here has played the same Shakira song 6 times in a row now. I'm waiting for 7. I am LIVING LARGE here in Crucerita, where my room not only has a fan, but has air conditioning AND a shower WITH hot water! I feel like a queen! I took a taxi here because I was too tired to argue with the driver about the benefits of taking a taxi vs taking a bus. We ...

Lifes a beach!

The journey from Oaxaco to Puerto Escondido wasn't the best! We left our hostel in Oaxaco (minus our Spanish speaking guide Stina) and made our way to the bus station. The bus was delayed because of it being stuck in a traffic jam or because it had broken down (like we said our Spanish isn't good!). Some of the other passengers were fed up (e.g. the Americans and French!) but we bit our lips and got on with it! Kerry made friends with the security guards by ...
