Thanksgiving...Spanish style

... bus to take to the Alhambra, and after a bit of arguing and a lot of waiting, we finally hopped on the correct bus to get us to the site. Tour times for the Alhambra are scheduled for either 9am or 2pm everyday and due to Mom and Torrey's arrival after 9am, we opted to take the 2pm time slot, which meant we waited for another hour before we could gain entrance. Though there was a lot of waiting to be done that morning, it all ended up being worth it once we ...

The Alhambra

After two days of walking the beautiful hills of Frigiliana, we made the trip to Granada so that we could see The Alhambra – the Crown Jewel of Andulusia. The bus trip took us through the Sierra Nevada region of Spain on a beautiful sunny day; it took almost three hours to get there and then another short bus ride to the top of the hill. When we arrived, we purchased our tickets and got 2 audio guides in English. We then entered a world that has to ...

... tapas... wonderful. After a few of these, we caught the bus to Bobadilla, which is a 10min walk to the campsite, and conveniently has a typical Spanish (loud men, even louder women serving) bar, where we continued to consume beer and tapas; 4 rounds later, we had spend just Euros 7 per person and felt sated not just Alhambra (the local beer, very good) but the variety of hearty tapas. We walked back to camp for a well earned sleep.

Granada! (Part I)

... culture was my favorite of my entire time here. I could have spent an entire day sitting on the steps of the cathedral, taking it all in and enjoying the Arabic dance parties that roamed the streets.

From the market, we found a narrow Arabic-themed street where you could buy teas, hookahs, blankets, Arabic poetry, and other goods. We were sort of done with shopping, but we did find an AMAZING restaurant to eat at. It featured authentic Arabic and Indian food ...

Oh Granada

... the week and had a ball of a time.

Next day was the walking tour (free-ness, but a tip expected of course – but only if you want? Confused at free, me too!) and after the main sights had been discovered, the tour guide took us to the tapa’s bar. Now possible the best thing about Granada is the free tapas or the buy one 1.5-2 euro drink and get a generous plate of tapas. This is only available in Granada and is the best idea since your mum did your ...

Granada, Andalusia and the Alhambra Day 1

We flew again on Spanair from Barcelona to Granada at 10:30 am. Hopefully my luggage survives. After each flight, another small piece seems to be broken or fallen off - little feet go missing, gashes in the side... These were the $38E tickets we bought back in January...really cheap for a flight like Regina to Calgary...about an hour long. We decided to splurge and allow us time for breakfast and take a taxi instead of the Areobus ...

Amazing Alhambra

... of the towers out over the city and the Muslim quarter of the Albayzin. It was starting to get really hot by this stage, so once I let the incredible view sink permanently into my mind I made my way on to Generalife. These were the soul soothing palace gardens a short walk from the palace. Equally as rich and exotic as the main part of La Alhambra, I forgot about the heat and my hunger and spent about half an hour exploring, glad my camera battery was ...

... used it as a base to explore Barcelona. Mont Gat is a beach with a mountain of rocks at the end of it, home to lots of stray cats who are looked after by people from around the city who come to feed them. As well as visiting the obvious sights; the gothic quarter, La Sagrada Familia, La Rambla, Gaudi's park, we spent a few hours looking through the Casa Batllo, an apartment block designed by Gaudi that seems to come alive with themes of the ...

First entry on SPAIN

... I actually find most of them very interesting, they are just at awkward times. I have one class in the morning, which is culture of spain. My teacher for that class is really cool. You can ask him everything and he explains things very well too. Then I have no class until 4, until about 830. Plus, its a 30 minute walk from my house. ugh. But my art history class is fascinating and every Wednesday we go on a field trip in the city. So its ...

... rolled up in my backpack) is completely squashed. But its on canvas, I'm thinking I might try ironing it when I get home, that will either salvage it or completely wreck it! But thats life eh?! I made they day trip to Toledo, again, the feeling of been there, done that was there. But I know I would have regretted it if I hadn't gone tho, I had to see what it was all about. It was a touristy place, wandering through the mazes of small streets was fun, as always!
