Hi all, we are still in Silves. Unbeknown to us, we seem to have landed on one of the best campsites around and now we are reluctant to move on. It is good as we are close to the historical town centre (5 mins) which is seriously old (still the Moors and Christians fighting after they kicked out the Romans), there is electric connections, free internet, a supermarket two minutes away, good showers, few tourists and loads ...
... It is quite run down in places with some beautiful old buildings standing empty. We have been buying perfect avocados, huge plums, fresh salad etc at the market. The market man obviously thought that my salad was not going to be any good because he insisted on putting an onion and a bunch of coriander in the bag. Even when I held my nose to indicate that I really don't like coriander he just ignored me. Had to give the coriander to the French neighbours.

I'll admit, living in the Rockies and along the Pacific Ocean had me thinking I had seen what the world has to offer when it comes to natural beauty. Silves (sounds like Silvesh) is a lovely town. We drove from Portimao about 20 kms. Castello was interesting, built by the moors (Arabs) including a 1.2m litre water tank dug in the rock. Now you can walk inside. Used for over a 1000 years and retired in 1980's. Not bad ...
