      ... So we got up around 7 to get ready for the three-hour tour, Sophie came with us. We arrived too early, so we had to wait for our guide, John. John's got family in Friesland and he knew a few Dutch expressions which he repeated often while kayaking, such as 'fantastisch' and 'heel mooi' and he thought these were Frisian (which they aren't), but he didn't know 'oant moarn' (which is Frisian).

      ... the menu, usually you have to ask or explain. It's occured to me that since I'm over this side of the world there may be artists on tour that I could see that would be difficult to see back home. After some investigation it turns out City & Colour will be in Boston, Phili and NY around the time I plan on being there which is a happy coincidence. He's also got a new album out, which passed me by so I downloaded that via the now-it's-installed-not-too-shabby amazon mp3 player ...

      We called to see some friends of my ma and pa this afternoon and are going with them for dinner tonight. We have checked into our B&B which is ver nice with a view over the bay.       ... with its huge watershed draining the mountains of their rain and melting snow over a massive area the volume of water coming down the Columbia is mind boggling. So much so that its mouth and the ever moving bar across it are known to create some of the most dangerous breaking seas on the US coastline. As we later discovered it is here that the US Coastguard trains its lifeboat crews in rough water boat handling in their famous 47 ft cutters.
