... So we got up around 7 to get ready for the three-hour tour, Sophie came with us. We arrived too early, so we had to wait for our guide, John. John's got family in Friesland and he knew a few Dutch expressions which he repeated often while kayaking, such as 'fantastisch' and 'heel mooi' and he thought these were Frisian (which they aren't), but he didn't know 'oant moarn' (which is Frisian).

We called to see some friends of my ma and pa this afternoon and are going with them for dinner tonight. We have checked into our B&B which is ver nice with a view over the bay. Will try and take some pictures to post later. It also decided to start raining this afternoon. The sun is expected back by the weekend though so fingers ...

... at all with the road, so we're going for it today! We left Goldstream around 9am and it was another rainy & miserable day! We grabbed fuel & coffee, then hit the road. First up we came through Sooke and there wasn't really too much to see because of the weather. Down the road a bit further we stopped in at French Beach which was really pretty, even on a ****** day. It would be super popular on a nice sunny day!! The road from here into Port Renfrew was curvy, narrow and bumpy ...

... way along the canyon wall. Great view of the water and the canyon walls. The stream here is also glacially fed but instead of being the usual milky blue it was clear as a clear thing can be.

Many repetitions of "it's so clear!" and "so pretty lah!". Amazing bright yellow lichen covering the tree trunks. We only had time to walk to the lower falls (gives us yet another reason to return to Canada) though even these were spectacular and again, a huge volume ...

... it was also a very low tide so the skipper held the boat there for a few more hours than normal.

The ship pulled out at 8am under a clear blue sky with just a touch of fog hanging over the water and we sailed down the narrow passage - the Wrangell Narrows at a slow speed, twisting this way and that to negotiate the shallow pass which is 21 miles long, less than a 100 metres wide at a number of places, with over 70 navigational aids along it. There was only 20' or so ...
