... there sits a small but very pretty lighthouse and an impressive fog bell. Nice country all the way with the architecture all not surprisingly typically Maine. There are some really beautiful homes right throughout this area and we are seeing it at a great time. Sharon and Lou (and Stitch and Natasha)have been great hosts. This has been a really relaxing stop on our trip. Time for lunch now ...

Early morning 4th July off to the Hertz station at Portland airport to pick up our little Corolla while Carol prepared herself following a not great nights sleep. Something to do with snoring!! Breakfast at the Embassy suites and we were off on our two and a half hour drive north to Northport in Maine where Sharon and Lou spend their summers away from the heat of Florida. ... the first time we have seen this. They certainly wouldn't be able to do this back home in our nanny state! We finally reached Searsport (just short of Belfast) under heavy pea soup fog - so much for coming here for the views! Checked into a cheap motel with a wifi connection that was almost non existent & useless. The only place open was the takeaway in the gas station across the road, so ate pretty poorly that night. Dana had told us that Camden is the most charming of Maine seaports, so we took off to explore Penobscot Bay where Camden, Rockland and Rockport snuggle against the shore, standing shoulder to shoulder.

We were interested in seeing as much in possible over the course of two days. Our list included the Farnsworth Art Museum, the Maine Lighthouse Museum, Rockland Breakwater, Camden Hills State Park and points along the way. ...
