      Lovely Apartments

We arrived at the Rothensteiner Apartments on Sunday night and from first impressions, it was very rustic. The decor is old fashioned (verging on the haunted!) but beautiful and consistent throughout the rooms. The rooms are very large and spacious with free wifi and TV in each room. Highly recommended!

      ... landmark of Vienna.

We had lunch in a lovely Konditerei ....not quite a restaurant, serves both beautiful cakes, pastries with tea/coffee or more substantial meals. It was very crowded and you wait, usually only five minutes or so as people seem to eat and leave.
Here we had our first Vienna Schnitzel served traditional with parsley potatoes or potato salad. Ours was served with parsley potatoes, half a lemon wrapped in tuille and tied off with ...

We didn't feel like doing too much today, so caught the number 1 tram, and did a loop on it. Past gorgeous old buildings and out into the suburbs and back again. Very interesting.

Then we caught a train out to Schonbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs. It is huge, with 1,141 rooms. We didn't do the tour, just wandered around outside. There are magnificent fountains and statues throughout the grounds, ...

We went to the market the next day and it was even bigger because it was a Saturday and it was really interesting to see! Me and Melissa called it our rest day. Were both sick with colds now so we had naps, had good meals and a relaxing evening. We had the typical canadian breakfast with hash ...

I imagine the zoo and surrounding grounds to look beautiful in the summer/spring/autumn seasons.

After admiring the animals, we popped into the Lindts chocolate shop, just window shopping.....not for some!

Tomorrow, we move on to Salzburg.......Sound of Music country......yay.....:)

... Crypt and of course, the Imperial apartments - a whole series of elegant, ornate buildings, characterised by statues - statues either side of the archways, above the archways, on top of the windows, in fact everywhere....even along the roofline!!

Having been completely "wowed" inside this courtyard at the high level of architectural detail - they just don't build like this these days, we wandered through an archway on the other side and were ...
