After miles of motorway I notice on my satnav there is a smaller road winding its way alongside the motorway and so I take the next off ramp and head for the town of Erstfield. I am now on the old and winding road that finally leads to the St Gottard pass. It’s an amazing road with loads of passes along it. The scenery gets better by the mile.

... the ferry to bellagio....a bit touristy for us so found a nice lady in a deli who made us a massive sandwich each - salami, ham, local cheeses.a..total cost $5 .....then walked over the hill and found some nice lane ways and little harbours ... Talia - we shared our lunch with our new friends....ducks.....found a nice water ...
Lake como
Train one hour out to varenna on lake como. Weather fine again, lake is clear n blue. Varenna is small village across from Bellagio. Very cute on hill side, ferry takes you across to other villages. We are staying at a hotel in the village square, bell chimes from 7am till 7pm we think, or hope, saw mellagio village on other side of lake today, it is a beautiful town, buildings ...
A visit to the Western side of Lake Como
Slept in until after 8 this morning. Cold and cloudy outside so we had a slow breakfast and some good conversation around the dining room table for the whole morning. Interesting views from the cottage - sometimes looking out above the clouds at the sunshine but seeing nothing of the lake below.
In the afternoon we greatly enjoyed a driving excursion around the northern edges of the lake ...
Birthday celebrations in the mountains
Morning was cloudy and cool - about 4°. We went to breakfast at Muellers as it was Fides' birthday today. Great spread to start the day. Rang Omi and she also spoke with Fides and Andrea. She was pleased to hear we were having a great time with family.
Later Andrea joined us when we went with Fides and Jorg on a drive to two lakeside ...
