We woke to a beautiful morning and set off to drive the Big Sur. Today was all about whales, seals and cyclists. About 8 miles from Carmel we saw a school of about 8 humpbacked whales. What a sight! There was more whale watching later on. We passed a Naval Facility at Point Sur. The coastline was very rugged and beautiful. Some flies around today which was a bit of a nuisance. .We could not stop at every viewpoint, there were so many. We have seen ...

A travel blog entry by korresa on Jan 09, 2013

Yet another 5am start today, breakfast as the sun rose over Monterey Bay giving us a beautiful display. Had time for a short stroll for photos down Cannery Row before we headed out of town heading for or next stop - Hearst Castle. A 3 hour drive and we were there, ready to take a look at William Hearst's 'folly'. They call this 'America's Castle' I guess because there aren't many, if any, real ones. William Hearst bean began building his on the family ranch high up ...

... today was another relaxing day spent at the pool and on a scenic drive up the mountains behind Ojai. We may rent out some bikes tomorrow but the temperature Is going to be in the high 30's so we need to take heed of that. We also have to pack tomorrow as we have to head for Los Angeles for our onward flight to Las Vegas. It's tough but someone has to do it. Bye for now, L & ...
