Rurrenabaque is a town serving tourists heading into the National Park Madidi, a park on the tip of the Amazon and home to some amazing wildlife. I booked myself onto 2 tours, the first a 2 day jungle trip, the second a 3 day trip of the Pampas. Pampas means flat lands and in this case has an abundance of waterways teeming with wildlife.

You can either take an 16 hour ride on a local bus (meaning no reclining seats, no bathroom, big chance of people standing, sitting, sleeping in the aisle...) or taking a 45 minute flight... Our 6 day Amazon tour comprised 3 days in the Pampas (wetlands) and 3 days in primary rainforest. The Pampas was all about seeing animals so we spent most of our time in a long-tail boat.
