The majestic Mount Cook in the centre of the South island is surrounded by wonderful bright blue glacial rivers and lakes and was a beautiful sunny walk up to the glacier for us.

It was a long gorgeous drive through the Mackenzie country from Wanaka to Mt. Cook. The drive took us through three terrain types; flat farm land, to very dry and rocky terrain, followed by golden hills full of flowers. The morning was fantastic. We went to the Tasman Lake by boat and saw iceburgs and the Tasman Glacier. The weather completely cooperated, which was a pleasant surprise. Got to Mt. Cook today after driving through Twizel, and past the beautiful Lake Pukaki. The weather wasn't great, but I did get a good hike done. My pants were dripping afterwards; in fact, they were doing a good job at sticking to my legs :) Apparently, there really is a Mt. Cook, though with the cloud cover it was hard to tell.

Entering Mt Cook national park, passing the multitude of hydroelectric dams, salmon farms and snow tipped peaks gave us pause to contemplate just how bloody amazing the scenery in this country is.
