Lalibela er en lille by - indbyggertallet ligger mellem 10.000 og 30.000. Umiddelbart er der ikke noget der berettigere til en plads på turistkortet. Omgivelserne er mere golde end i Bahir Dar og Gondar, selv om vi fortsat befinder os ca. 2500 meter over havet. Det synes som endnu hårde arbejde at få noget frugtbart ud af jorden.
