Today was my last day in the Badlands, and I decided to cap off this park visit with a nice long hike. I took the Castle/Medicine Root trail, which is about 7 miles through fairly flat terrain. All these photos were taken at the first major scenic vista as you enter the park from the Northeast. This is the first time you get a really close up view of the incredibly rugged and otherworldly terrain of this park. Banded spires crest above deep gullies where the light can't get to, and above everything towers the Wall.

The Badlands were awesome! Every direction you looked there was an amazing view and it seemed like it just kept on going. When we got into Badlands National Park, we got out and climbed some of the cliffs. From far away they look like solid rock but while we were climbing we saw that it was just a lot of small pebbles! We got up at 5:45a.m in Douglas, Wyoming to a pretty sunrise and I fixed eggs and bacon for breakfast, a la John Templeton, my mom's dad, who made his eggs in bacon grease.
