Will it be by train or plane? Clear blue skies at both the origin and destination. So the plane is flying. Woohoo! 45 minutes is much better than 7 hours. Staying one more night at the transit hotel - then over to the Renaissance Hotel since I will be going into the office. Much nicer to stay there. But at least I got a single room for the night...

oggi e' festa nazionale in Kazakhstan. E' il capodanno musulmano e hanno fatto le cose come si deve. La piazza centrale e' piena di chioschi di shiashlik (spiedini di carne), suonatori di mandolino e iurta piene di ogni ben di Dio (soprattutto alcolici). Anch'io con il mio collega Fabio siamo andatio a fare un giro e a sondare la movida kazaka.

Voglio spendere due parole sull'auto aziendale che mi e' stata assegnata: la mitica Lada Niva. ecco un decalogo che ogni Niva che si rispetti non puo' mancare: 1. e' sempre invariabilmente ricoperta da uno strato di fango e ama il fango quasi quanto i baghini da allevamento. non importa di che colore sia "in teoria"; in pratica e' sempre marrone...

Mi ha detto un mio collega che ad Inder c'e' una statua del Lenin che hanno buttato giu' nel '91 hai tempi della controrivoluzione. E' in un vecchio deposito di ferraglie. buon Natale a tutti dalla ridente Atyrau. Una delle cittadine piu' radioattive del Kazakhstan, tant'e' vero che non hanno dovuto nemmeno fare fatica a mettere su l'illuminazione e gli addobbi natalizi. Made it back - did get a photo of the old bomber with the glass nose cone. Apparently, one of the local airlines uses it to fly people.
