I haven't seen the chair of my dissertation, mentor and friend, Cynthia Franklin in more than 12 years and we happened upon each other in China of all places. She was travelling through the country conducting trainings. We were lucky enough to meet up in the beautiful Hangzhou - a short train ride from Shanghai. ... tunnels flooded and cars were forced off the road. We were fortuitously beside a large gas station as we got off the road so pulled in for shelter. 3 hours later we were still there...stranded at a gas station. The good news is we had food, drink and washrooms. Mom bought the only bottle of red wine at the gas station (which Tara joked would taste better because it had aged on the shelf for 3+ years).
