    Quaint town overlooked by Germania

    ... like a ski lift) up the hill to the Germania monument, built in 1871 for the reunification of Germany then walked the 5kms down the hill. Had a drink, then went shopping & back to the boat for lunch.

    The next part of he Rhine is known for its castles, they were amazing, the cloud then started to move in so went inside for coffee & cake, like we needed more food.

    Got a haircut, really impressed & only €18.

    ... over to Wash World and did laundry. Getting bad weather news from Wacken. They are experiencing quite a bit of rain. We went from 40 degree heat and no rain to 20 degrees and lots of rain! On the ICE train to Hamburg now and then a few more trains to Bad Bramstedt. WACKEN STARTS TOMORROW!!!!! ...

    ... visited Melitta's cousin Jurgen & Family. Enjoyed afternoon tea etc with them.

    Sunday we were off to Erika & Manfred's Garden, just outside the city. Melitta couln't resist the statues of Meerkats, reminding her of the advert on TV for comparethemarket.com. Had lunch and then Erika's son (Steffan, Melitta's cousin) and family joined us for afternoon tea.

    ... visited the town square and tasted the Kranzplatz which is salty hot water that is supposed to be good for you. We also visited the cuckoo shop where the sales assistant was from Adelaide.

    Finally, we relaxed and had cake and coffee at the Maldaner cafe. This was built in 1859 and was very busy given the unusually cold summer weather. When we got back to the flat, we went for a run in the park before dinner.

    ... told we could not use until tomorrow because of road works. So off the 21 and onto the 4 and explained that all over again. Oh yes, that was right after trying to open the door - then walked to the driver and motioned - open the door or something like that and he motions to me - come around to the platform side hmmmmmm and so we did and we were on. Ride uneventful, except for the suitcase that decided to roll away - along the isle of the articulating ...
