... kikkailua banaaninpalasten kimpussa. "Proboscis monkey" kuuluu myos uhanalaisiin elukoihin eika sita borneon ulkopuolella edes tavata. Kummassakin paikassa villipedot temmelsivvat luonnollisessa elinymparistossaan eika niita pidetty lukittuina hakeissa. Apinat saapuvat kahdesti paivassa ruokailemaan niita varten rakennetulle tasanteelle josta niita voi sitten turvallisen matkan paasta pallistella (n.20m). Kuntoutuskeskuksessa ideana on opettaa apinat ...
Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia ilari... I got into trouble for numerous things, namely: 1) laughing at said ant driven dance, 2) not being more helpful in the face of adversity, probably a reaction to several insect bite false alarms over the course of the holiday (although we are still arguing the toss on this as I write) and 3) just being a bit of a bugger really.
Eventually we were on our way to Sepilok orang utan sanctuary. We arrived at Sepilok (this is the sanctaury that ...
Turtle Islands National Park, Tawi-Tawi, Philippines jason_m_smith... platform itself, oblivious to the audience, in a most blatant display of copulation! The activity saw them roaming over the whole area of the platform, with the crowd of onlookers continuously swerving to get out of their way, unsure whether to be fascinated or shocked!

Once the female had escaped, we were further treated to up-close viewing as the individuals hung around the platform, so we could observe these unique creatures up close ...
Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, Sabah, Malaysia rachelandmike... big male had to assert himself, and occasionally one of them would charge up and across the balcony, scaring anyone standing in their way. There are two feeding platforms in the sanctuary, the second not being as nice as the first, but it definitely had more wildlife. Walking around we saw crabs, squirrels, macaques, egrets, lizards and a crazy looking thing I'd never seen before, a mud-skipper. We watched a DVD and three feedings in total, then headed back to Sandakan.
Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia whatthedeuce... attention. The food was also surprisingly good and very generous, but in a way a shame to give us European food rather than local Malay to try.

The wild life we viewed from the boat trips they took us on was more prolific than we experienced on the Amazon. The first day we saw elephants, macaques, otters, and proboscis monkeys plus birdlife. On the way back we got drenched in a storm, but being so hot,it didnt matter two hoots. The second trip we saw crocodiles ...

Sepilok, Malaysia shelleyandsimmo... it to us. I was kinda disappointed...okay really disappointed. I expected big and slimy but it look like an inch worm, seriously no longer than and inch. And this is what I was worried about? Jessie suddenly didn't care about getting a leech anymore. We went back and waited about and hour and headed out on our river cruise. He had hired a local boat guide. The river cruise was a lot easier than thrashing about in the bushes. I wont go thru all the details but we saw macaque ...
Sukau, Sabah, Malaysia savageharmony... until I picked up a twig and tried to move it, to which the little devil launched itself at me.... It was only 15cm long but clearly has loads of attitude! We enjoyed our time there and met some nice people who we exchanged experiences with as many of them have either done the mountain trip or diving so it was good to hear what was good. The people of the lodge were all excellent and Papa Bear made sure we well looked after.
Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia kingsandems... I'd been eaten alive by mosquitoes and woke up at midnight excruitiatingly itchy - so bad that I was panicking and almost couldn't breathe! I'd taken 2 types iof antihistamines and used a ton of cream but they'd swollen up something chronic. The girls in reception couldn't believe they were mosquito bites as they'd never seen anything like it and asked if i ...
