... Old City Center is a Unesco World Heritage Site, I presume because so much of it is hundreds of years old and well-preserved. Cesky Krumlov suffered little damage during WWII or the Russian occupation. It is like stepping into a time capsule, with narrow winding cobblestone streets, old stone buildings and interesting wooden doors. Auto traffic into the old center is regulated, which makes it predominately a pedestrian area, just as it was when it was constructed.

... part of Bavaria) were terrified that the clock maker would go on to make a better clock in another city, so they had him deliberately blinded to stop him from ever making another clock again! Mental! It came full circle when we visited the old Jewish quarter, regarded the best preserved in all of Europe as everywhere else caught a very severe and unfortunate case of Nazism between 1939-1945 and were gradually destroyed. Today we caught bus the 10 minutes back to Schenkenfelden. The square was very quiet today, noone much around and all bar one cafe closed. Yesterday when we arrived here on foot it was busy with a noisy bunch of young people sitting out at the cafe/pub, waving to everybody passing and generally being clowns. Very friendly and entertaining.

It had taken us about the same time to walk from Radanov to Schenkenfelden as it had our family, although ...

We came out of the forest to a large sloping field, as often occurs you follow a well defined track into a field and the track becomes many that just peter out and you can't find the continuation on the other side. We scouted around the lower edge near the creek and a sign - POZOR - the far side - the top. With our maps out trying to work out the contours, compass directions ( I'm actually not great working a compass but did a good job ...
