Historical Traveler Reviews of Zur Wiener Staatsoper Vienna
Schön, aber mit kleinen Macken
from A TripAdvisor Member

Excellent hotel in its class/price range

To echo the majority of other reviewers, this was a lovely little hotel, very conveniently located. Being on a pedestrian only street helped to keep things reasonably quiet while still being in the centre of things. The smallness of the rooms and bathroom might get a bit much for a long stay, but it was fine for a short visit (we stayed 3 nights). Very clean and comfortable, well maintained, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast. Don't think it can be beaten for price and location in Vienna.
Nice, but minor hiccups

This hotel is very centrally located and easy to access from the underground. They are very accomodating at the front desk. However, there are a few things that could be improved upon. First, while you can request a non-smoking room, there is no guarantee that the smoke from the lobby won't waft up your way (as happened in our case). Also, being it is an old hotel, which is part of it's charm, the walls are quite thin. The breakfast is magnificent and the staff is lovely as well.
Good Price, Prime Location

I do not believe this hotel can be beaten for price or location in Vienna. In addition, the staff is wonderfully cooperative. We had to leave before the breakfast room opened so the night before the kitchen gave us a selection of cold meats, cheeses, yogurt and juice in a small refrigerator! They also gave us good Austrian bread and jam. When we asked for restaurant suggestions the lady at the desk consulted a friend who knew the restaurant scene better and came up with three good places for our tastes. Yes, the rooms are small and the bathrooms tiny, but this is Europe. The hotel has a lovely exterior, tasteful furnishings, and is clean. Being at the edge of a pedestrian zone it can be noisy with late night revelers, but this did not disturb us and we kept the windows open.
Great little hotel...

Excellent location near, obviously, the opera. On a quiet pedestrian street--plenty of shopping, restaurants nearby. Vienna was a halfway point for a 4 week trip for me, and had many errands to run. Hotel staff helped me get laundry done, ship things home, find internet cages with best rates, good food nearby, best sales, etc. etc. etc.
Breakfast was delicious.
Rooms were small, but with HUGE windows and very high ceilings, so didn't feel cramped. Bathroom was quite nice, but small as well. All in all, excellent hotel, especially for the price.
Charm & Personal Service

The hotel provides a central base for adventures in Vienna. The room and bathroom size reminds one of a cruise ship - small, but functional. The rooms overlook a pedestrian - only street, and it was entertaining to open the window and listen to people going by. All of the staff are warm, friendly, and willing to help. Fluent English is spoken, as is the case in most locations in Vienna. The breakfast provided with the room is not to be missed. There is a wonderful assortment of food, and everything is served on beautiful china.
Very nice experience June 2004

This is a very lovely small boutique hotel in the heart of Vienna. It is very conveniently located next to the pedestrian walkway, a short walk to St. Stephens, the Opera House, and many shops. There is also an internet cafe right across the street. Breakfast room and bathrooms are small but not problematic. I would stay here again as the rooms were very nice, clean and reasonably priced. Staff incredibly helpful.
Small and Sweet

This is a great value hotel in the heart of Vienna. All the major sites are in walking distance and the opera house is just around the corner. Restaurants and shops are also on the doorstep Although the rooms are small and bathrooms even smaller it has everything you need and is clean and comfortable. I missed having tea/coffee making facilities in the room though. The breakfasts are good with a variety of meats and cheeses etc and different types of bread every day. All in all a good hotel for a short stay in Vienna
