... were able to view Zell from above and really appreciate how lovely and picturesque the whole valley is. It's hard to comprehend that the history of this area can be traced back to 2000BCE and parts of the town walls erected in 1229 can still be seen!. Zeller Schwarze Katz is a world famous wine and a monument in the shape of a black cat was made as a fountain and is located in the town square. Tomorrow we are planning a boat trip.

... main strasse of the town. The choice of eating out is many and varied and with the long day-light hours (lights out 9 pm) we will be trying a few in the evenings mainly. Grape vines predominate the landscape and are mainly grown on the sides of hills requiring steel ladders to access them. Certainly makes for hard work when harvesting! Hopefully tomorrow we will be feeling more energetic and ready to tackle further afield.

Well, we had a surprise yesterday when our home-stay hosts suggested we stay in Speyer an extra day. It seems the anticipated guests for the next weeks home-stay have faded away. That saved us an overnight in Frankfurt. So today we flew entirely without a flight-plan. We got up, had some coffee and toast and decided we should confirm train times to the Frankfurt Flughafen. We will have to be on a train out of Speyer no later than 12:00 noon. ...

... main courtyard had been. Time for a flammekuchen. Like a pizza but with a much crunchier base and much more cheese. The view from where we sat was spectacular, down to the town of Traben-Trabach and the River valley. ... to do a photo tour of Ladenburg, but nobody turned up because of the weather, so I can't blame them. I decided to go for a little bike ride around myself. Starting at the Wasserturm, there are a number of interesting things around. Ladenburg is definitely an important village with a long history.
