It has to be said that 1/2 day in Dresden is not enough. With travel to and from, it is pretty much essential that you have at least a 2 night stay. We didn't so we short-changed ourselves and did not do justice to Dresden.

... Of the buildings that did survive, there is the lovely old Kreuzkirche. We opted to climb the steps of the 54 metre tower here rather than take the elevator to the top of the newly built Frauenkirche.
