... We check in (yah - they have free wifi and room safes) and go for lunch at Cafe Rincon de Carmen. We set in an outdoor courtyard which would be quite beautiful in summer - the weather is sunny and warm. We of course chose the menu of the day (12E - prices seem to be more expensive here). I have a salad and a local favourite, according to the waiter, called 'flamenquin' - it's ham rolled in pork covered in bread coating. It's very good. John and Dale had a cold soup called ...
Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands pathfinder35... never been to a soccer game so it was good to have Sean to explain the basics to me, and im glad that i saw a match in spain as these people are soccer fanatics! Cordoba played like **** though and consequently lost, so there was a disapointed vibe for the walk home. It would have been great to see the people if they had won, even so the car park was full of people with bbq´s and deckchairs afterwards, i felt like i was back in Melbourne at a local footy match! It was pretty ...
Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands lovin_applesThe mosque of Cordoba is a sight to behold. Especially at night, I think--we arrived just after 6pm and by the time we got settled and explored, it was dark and the mezquita lit up against the night sky was pretty spectacular. Southern Spain has been influenced by so many cultures over its years that it brings a unique flavour. This was our first taste of it--apparently the mezquita is the most important Islamic monument in the ...
Córdoba, Spain euroadventurers... I really need to know where they end because nothing can go on for ever like that. I drove listening to the radio playing lazy flamenco music, the type that invites you to fall in love with a Spanish country girl. I lost myself in these olive trees, and though the lyrics made no sense to me, I could hear the anguish and passion in the melody. My lonely planet says the roots of flamenco lie in the songs of the gypsies, who traveled ...
Málaga, Spain karimwahba... on the bottom tier of chairs the lives of all the martyrs from the time. Each has a picture of the person engraved int he back with a smaller image of how they were killed...sounds morbid but it was very cool.In comparison to the simplicity of the mosque though it was very visually overwhelming... Our final stop was the Arabic Baths... It is very important in the islamic faitht o be clean sooothey had thse bath houses all over with a ...
Cabra, Spain bobbyw2345so we woke up this morning to get our train and head to Nice...but we made a very stupid mistake. upon arriving at the train station, the ticket seller told us that the train doesnt leave until 745 at night. Darn! we both failed to look at the specific station in barcelona where the train was leaving. we just figured the biggest one, and the one we had come into. so it kinda sucked. what should we do. we called mom ...
Figures, Spain walrathsneurope... trepidation I felt while in Barcelona and Valencia may stem from having to be so careful when visiting Mexico (the resort towns at least). Silly to compare the two just because they share a language, I know, but still... Better safe than sorry. Anyway, I was really starting to groove on Granada. A much better vibe here overall (continuing the feeling I'd had in Sevilla). So, for the pleasure of these cocktails and the two little plates I was required to surrender 4.25-euro. "A ...
Granada, Spain danschedler... to paella for me. She showed me how to make the paella today. She made it with pork today although it can also be made with seafood or chicken or almost anything. Hopefully I will be able to recreate this when I get back into a kitchen. The next meal isn´t until about 9:00 and I´m usually somewhat hungry at that point. This meal is much smaller, more like lunch. I´m sure I will adjust soon. Granada is one of very few cities where the Spanish tradition of getting tapas ´gratis ...
