... wall paintings showing In fine detail a story from Greek mythology. There is also a 'heroon' an above ground monument dedicated to the cult of the distinguished dead. All in all a brilliant museum. We are little surprised at the lack of security at the sight though, in the UK there would be handbag searches and guards dotted around with so much gold and antiquity on one site! We walked back to Dream catcher and arrived just as the rain turned into a thunderstorm which raged most if the ...

This morning we are going to put our hanging around waiting for the museum to open day to good use. We drove to Giannitsa a small town about half an hour away, the road there passed mostly through industrial sites, with fingerposts to other archaeologic sites, of which there are many in this area. We found a parking place in the town and set off to the 'Internet top up' shop, we had passed it on the way in, so we knew where to ...

We walked along the beach for a while before driving to Ktima Gerovassilliou, a must see winery which enjoys a spectacular setting overlooking the sea and on a clear day(which today isn't) Mt Olympus is visible. We left the beach and followed a track, one of Les's short cuts! It went into a disused camping site, we drove around and couldn't find a way out! Back the way we came we exited the beach along the muddy track by which we ...

First job after a slow start was for maintenance to repair the fuse on the inverter, a quick test and yesterday's electrical mistake didn't cause any damage. We packed up and said goodbye to Lynda, the English lady, she can talk for England, we are completely genned up on launderette s on Crete, the places where all the campers congregate and half of her life history! We filled with water and drove to the retail park, a quick call at the DIY shop and then the supermarket. Why oh why ...

Today was very similar to yesterday - both in terms of the weather as well as the nature of the site that I visited. Under another grey, overcast sky, I boarded a bus from Thessaloniki this morning bound for the Greek city of Giannitsa, which made a stop along the way to drop me off at the ancient archaeological site of Pella, the capital of the Macedonian kingdom (after it was relocated from Vergina/Aigai at the end of the 5th century BC) and the birthplace of Alexander the ...
