Camp Croatia

... the hours until the next meal, trying to occupy ourselves... so I have been working on summer internship applications and reading this great book called Mountains Beyond Mountains which is about Paul Farmer.
Well, that's all I have to report, I'm not sure when my next blog will be, probably not until after Ireland, so around December 15 I would assume.
All the best!

Recovering

Decided to clump together the last few days as not really got much to tell woke up in hospital after a terrible nights sleep and the doctor came around and said that I could go home but had to wait until I had been in there for 24 hours so Ian came and got me and we got a taxi back to the room which cost 74 pounds the ripping off monster. But hoping can keep the reciepts and claim it back when we speak to ...

Disaster Strikes!

... me and what where the acoustics like. He told me to come up and see him so I was on my way up when I thought it would be funny to pretend I was a gladiator on a horse and started trotting into the arena next minute my leg went something pulled in my calf I know now that it was only a pulled muscle but I was in agony and Ian was laughing thinking my horse had gone lame.

I tried to hobble over to some ...

Sunday lunch

As we said its getting colder now so we decided not to do much today as we both wanted to relax anyway after the hectic few weeks that we have had in Turkey greece and italy. So we just went for a walk in the harbour and had a look around its another pretty little harbour town with some cafes but its still really different from Italy. We found a supermarket and as we wanted ...

Nude Beach and Water Sports in Rovinj

Rovinj is our first stop with our new guests, my high school friends aboard. Unlike most of our guests when they first come aboard, my friends were very hyper and anxious to get out and have some fun.

I usually wake up around 8 AM and expected my friends to sleep in much later. But, shortly after my coffee service arrived, I heard a knock on my door and it was Jeff and Vance coming to wake me up. After ...

Ciao Italy

... head phones on it was doing his head in. We had to go through passport control which was a border on the motorway and we got our passports checked first by the Slovenian Police then by the Croatian police as we had to go through Slovenia to get to Croatia. We are coming back to Slovenia but in a few days time. The police did not stamp my passport and I was really dissapointed I am sure because Croatia is not an EU country he ...

Tranquility for as long as you can get away with..

... illegal immigrants with no right to be there?! Great, "sorry officer we were just having tea and then heading back to Italy anyway..." "car papers please", he then had a good read over our documents, (his English was annoyingly good), after a few minutes he then declared our insurance was invalid because Croatia is not a member state of the European union. Now I thought I checked this before we left but it seems we'd overlooked this little ...

1st stop in Croatia: Rovinj

Rovinj is set on a small peninsula on the Istrian coast of Croatia, which is famous for its fine wines and truffles. Photos of Rovinj have appeared in advertisements and international travel publications, and it's one of Croatia's most scenic small coastal towns.

The medieval old city is a tangle of narrow, steep streets and steps leading ...

The former Venetian outpost of Koper, Slovenia

Italian is not a common 2nd language in the countries we've visited, but Koper Slovenia had clearly been conquered by the Italians and left with evidence of their rule. The city was settled in Roman times, then influenced by the Byzantine Empire around 600-800 AD, and ruled by Venice from 1300-1800.

Street signs were in Italian and Slovenian, and the lion emblem of Venice was posted on several important buildings. The familiar locking window ...

The Guiding Hand of the Icecream Man

... After that, we hit Porec. (The first bit of this e-mail) Other stops were Rovinj and Pula, also along the coast. Pula has a full size Roman Amphitheatre from the 1st century, with walls 30m high. The original town gate, the Arch of Sergius, is dated 27BC! Further along we found Rijeka but Rab Island was our final destination, and that's where we spent the last 3 days soaking up a little more sun before we had to go back into the mountains and cooler territory.
