Very brief time in Copenhagen, reunited with Mike (YAY!) and my parents at the airport before traveling to our boat for our cruise.
I was briefly quaranteened after filling out the health check. Apparently side effects from visits to African Nations, and anti-malarials are quite similar to H1N1 early symptoms. Not to worry, it was a short (30 minute) delay before I was onboard and enjoying the experience!
... started. Neither of us had ever seen so many fantastic shows. The bands loved it as well. So many of them said that Roskilde was one of their favourite festivals in the world (at Glastonbury they said the best festival in the world). It was also fascinating to see a festival in another country with a very different culture. Seeing churches in another country is one thing, but spending a week partying with the youth of another country is another, it was far more ...
Copenhagen, Capital Region, Denmark jaspergreene... At the far edge of the fortress, were several notable sites for tourists and locals alike. The impressive fountain with water sprouting everywhere around the heroic figure of a woman pushing a plow pulled by raging bulls. Beside the fountain was the Old English Church that has sat on the edge of the moat for centuries. Beside the church was a small building of great importance to the Danish People. During WWII, the Danish Resistance tenaciously fought ...
Copenhagen, Denmark danharriet... on a "law camp" next weekend with us literally camping ... will keep you posted on how that goes. The weekend after we are taking a cruise up to Oslo, the capital of Norway, for the weekend so 2 nights on a boat and a full day to explore on land. If you thought Stockholm had a lot of us think again as we have more than 20 people of the ship from KU!! The invasion has begun... organisation of everyone is a nightmare! Someone said we should give up on being ...
Copenhagen, Denmark nomadicnikki... streets. Near the big office areas there are big bicycle parking areas. Most people here speak English, which is taught beginning in the 2nd grade. Apparently there is a long standing mistrust between the Danes and the Swedes, a feud that arose long ago and no one really knows why but it continues, sort of a good-natured thing. As we came in to Copenhagen there is a huge bridge that leaves Sweden and goes out ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark hagatha... own nation. On Thursday I took a day off from crash course class and went sightseeing with Luke. We went and saw some of the castles in Copenhagen, visited the little mermaid, saw the changing of the guard at the Queens' castle, visited the national museum, and went on a tour of the Carlsberg brewery. That night we all went to the Australian Bar to give Luke a send off as he would be flying out to Boston the next day.
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark tom_white_5588... was fast approaching and sailing was imminent. We met up with Carol and Bob on the Lido deck for sail-a-way drinks (soda's for them, Champagne for Michael and I) and then took a zillion pictures as we sailed out. What a beautiful day it was. Bright, sunny, warm. Perfect for the festivities. And for Michaels first on-air reporting gig! (see vid). But we were under way and once again 4 am reared it's ugly head again. Larry was ...
Copenhagen, Denmark ohiolair... up being 2,25. I was short a nickel!! So after walking around for 10 minutes trying to find something to buy, I decided to dig into my pockets again and see if I missed any change. I found another quarter. Scores!!! I was able to buy a banana nut muffin. I only mention this ordeal because when I magically found that extra quarter, I remember telling myself that this would be a sign for my trip. That things will work out for me along the way. But of ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark dinovagabond... were everywhere, thousands of them. They even have their own proper lanes on all the roads and their own bike lights at intersections!!! Was surprised by how many people spoke english, and so well! you couldnt tell if english was there first or 2nd language!! made us feel bad for having no idea how to speak their language! Validated our Eurail pass and started the train travel chunk of our trip ... headed off from Copenhagen to Berlin by train.
Copenhagen, Denmark bluetriangle15... people who have been using drugs. This is not what I expected and later read in my guide book that I have walked through Vesterbro, which in the past had an unsavoury reputation, but is now becoming trendified with lots of cafes and restaurants. The first impression that strikes you is the number of people riding bicycles - every street has wide bike lanes and these are bustling with cyclists of all types and ages - businessmen in suits, old ladies and men, parents with ...
