Getting lost in Rome

A travel blog entry by larosa_m on Jun 19, 2015

Woke up early on our next morning in Rome. Breakfast early at the hotel as I was excited to venture out in this city to discover all it had to offer. We started the day cruising to the Fontana Di Trevi to see it in the day light. Then continued on our journey through the back streets trying to figure which way the map was telling us to go. Pantheon was next on our travels we definitely need to stop back there to get some photos inside. We then ...

Decided to take a train into the countryside of Tivoli. Caught the Metro to Tiburtina switched trains taking us through lovely countryside so nice to get out of the city, this second leg took 50minutes. What a lovely town this is, walked to Piazza Garibaldi with fountains had a coffee, next to Villa D'Este built by the Cardinal Ippoliot II D'Este with its beautiful gardens & many fountains. The Rocco Pia built in 1461 by Pope Pius II to control ...

Barrea to Pescasseroli

A travel blog entry by heatherandjohn on May 29, 2015

... had mostly collapsed. It was still very scenic though. We saw a sounder of wild boar (I confess I looked up what the collective name for wild boar was) trotting not far from the path just as the thunder was starting to growl in the distance. As we got back to Pescasseroli, the rain started. Although John had been the one to look up the weather forecast, he hadn’t thought to pack his waterproof coat. We sheltered under a tree for a while but it was raining ...

Two days of Rome was enough. We may revisit the Vatican city on our way back if we feel we have missed out but right at this moment, we just want to escape the crowds and where better than the Appennino Mountains. There are still brown bear, wolves and lynx in this part of the country but our chances of seeing any are very slim as apparently they are very shy.

It's a national holiday so initially the drive from Rome is a nightmare. ...

A day at the beach

... We have been very busy and decided we needed a quiet day. And it was soooo nice at the beach. We settled down in one of the shade shelters and just read and relaxed with our feet up. Think it was good for us. Then caught the trains back. They were very full and we had to stand most of the way with all the other sardines and it was very hot in the train. We were glad to finally get home and we had picked up a sandwich and soft drink to eat for dinner so did not need to leave the house ...
