... I have snacks and water on the bus but shortly after he walks back up to me with 3 oranges in hand. 'A gift' he calls them. Okie doke...?! I get back on the bus and shortly after he hops on as well with a coffee and a bottle of water for me. I'm not sure why he's doing this but I gratefully accept the water and he goes on his way. In the morning the sun was out and we took a stroll to the south side. Here we came across a little beach area which was full of people. There were about 5 or 6 men sat offering to do prayers for people. All the Indians were taking them up on it, taking it in turns to wave flames around and having water dropped on them. We sat and relaxed for a bit and thankfully weren't being stared at or asked for photos all the time ...

Rest seemed to be paying off, slowly but surely. Kate woke up feeling better today but still tired and headachey. With this in mind I organised a taxi to take us the 60km stretch north up to Varkala. Some slow packing and a delicious coconut mince breakfast later, we said our farewells to Charles and hit the crazy Indian roads. Turns out bus drivers here feel the same way as in Sri Lanka, move or be squashed. Of course it all works ...

... Turns out the bridge is a series of little islands and is impassable via car/train. The ferry apparently stopped running due to the Tamil Tigers in north Sri Lanka. So the only way to get there is to fly= expensive. So we are not going to Sri Lanka! This now means we have about 8 days spare, decisions, decisions-what to do now?
