The toilet area was covered with a roof and fresh water ran underneath the toilets and in front of them. One would use the the "moving" water in front of you to wash with. It was very high tech. ... that we could not go but it was great to be able to get up close to most of the reliefs and ruins including the portrait of the goddess nike – the god of victory.

A good friend of ours is a self-described Latin geek and although having been to Greece would have been in his element both here in Ephesus and in Troy. He is an erudite teacher and it would have been great to have him as a guide!

Tomorrow we take a 20 minute ride from Kusadasi to the ancient city of Ephesus and then back to Kusadasi for our last night in Turkey.
