... up by a tour bus for the three hour drive to Pammukkale. We decided to take a tour and not try to do it by local bus after very strong advice from the hotel desk. We are very pleased we did. Woke up early and had breakfast delivered at 7. After getting ready, we met Abdullah our guide at 8:45 outside the terminal. Our first visit was to the Chora church, famous for it's frescos - all icons depicting both old and new testament characters and stories. We spent an hour and a half there then headed off to see the Hagia Sophia - with it's enormous and unsupported dome. Many entrances were built with the distinguished Roman Arch while others were reconstructed with the horizontal Greece style. It was amazing to see the clay pipes they created to provide hot and cold running water to public and private facilities.
