Macau, China warfairy... had taken an obvious liking to me, my school Dean, Jason, a lovely guy but possibly the campest Chinese gentleman I've ever met, who has a wife and child obviously as gays, light lefties, don't exist in China. So the other foreign teachers we have the delight of working with. I'll go around the table. Next to us were: Ben and Kate: Similar to us in many ways, they keep themselves to themselves and entertain each other. Ben is from London with an accent boarding on ...
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China thebigh... t deal with so we left without playing a hand. Deceptively enough, seems par for the course, pictures are so misleading. My photos of Macau were stunning, my experience, not so much. A lot of squalor around the area, despicable when you consider the vast wealth that changes hands at the tables each night. Off to BALI the next day, speaking of places where the pictures exaggerate reality.
Macau, Macau, China mericanomadDecember 30, 2007 Well, it finally happened - I'm in love! His name is Andy. He is short, wears glasses and is totally obsessed with Mickey Mouse! Andy is nine years old, and was a student in the New Concept class that I taught on Saturdays at Bond. He would always tell me I was funny and laugh at my jokes, and tell me that my classes were interesting. His English is amazing, and when I first started teaching the class, I felt that Andy should have been in a more ...
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China gayegibson... and there was a big chance of falling backwards down the stairs. The large pack on my back may have caused the topple but also would have cushioned the landing. But, there were no mishaps. At the top of the stairs, an old man told us they were full. He was the same person I spoke to on the phone. He spoke no English. I tried to explain that I had called the day before and made a ...
Macau, Macau fritsswanepoel... the right choice in not going on the horse trek. I'm sure I would have been cold the whole time. Seeing as I didn't have the proper clothing to do anything in Songpan, I decided to head back to Chengdu the next day. I caught the first bus out in the morning at 6am. When I got on the bus, there were white plastic buckets placed throughout the aisle and all I could think about was people getting sick over the next 8 hours. Going back was even worse as there were ...
Zhongshan, Guangdong, China gayegibson... and they lost most of their ammunition so they beat a hastiy retreat! Walking around town brought back so many memories of Europe. Around the fortress there are so many steps and steep streets; I felt like I was back in Oporto by the river again. Ceramic street signs and baroque architecture, Roman Catholic-style churches and shiny European cars driving by. There are open food stores that specialise in food groups, and there is a lot of that salted cod for ...
Macau, Macau fatduck... with just the stone front still standing, was nice. Also visited the Macau museum which is inside an old fort that has nice views over the city. At night went for a wander around the casino district. The next day visited another fort with a short cable car ride, then walked part of the Macau grand prix course then visited the Grand Prix museum. Took a bus around the bottom two islands which are less populated. Visited ...
