We took a Chinese tour for the 3 hour journey to visit the Hakka village at Yongding. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These were communal living areas (sometimes for up to 3,000 people).

We were on a packed coach full of Chinese families. We stopped off at a large supermarket selling goods made by the Tula people in the Hakkas: coffee, tea, shortbread, etc. We passed through beautiful countryside with banana plantations, and tea ...

... But it was a total mob scene with Chinese tour groups. Ended the day leisurely wandering around the village my Tulou was in and found it nice and peaceful like the first cluster I visited. Took the bus from Xiamen up into the mountains inland to a Hakka village in the rural mountainous region of Yongding county in Fujian province. About a 4 hour ride. Helpful teenager next to me used Baidu translate to work out where I was heading and made sure I got off at the right stop. I also got a silver bracelet with a Buddha pendant for a gift. Terry bought about 15 sparkly clips and gave me a pink one : ). The group boarded the bus at 7:30 to go to a cable car ride and the zoo.! We got to the zoo and walked around a scenic ...

... road for over 31Km, hardly a walkable distance, even for one as determined as me. I had been intending to just settle in for the day, maybe do a bit of a local hike and then see the sights the following day but seeing the time I realised that it was more than feasible to get started today. As an added bonus this guy would take me on his bike greatly reducing the cost (Which admittedly was still a sizeable 15). For his safety he wore what looked like a hard hat made out ...
