We took a Chinese tour for the 3 hour journey to visit the Hakka village at Yongding. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site. These were communal living areas (sometimes for up to 3,000 people).

We left the zoo and went to a cable car. I got to ride with Jenny, our local guide. She pointed out a golf course and the 'dragon mountain'. She also showed me pictures of her family and an old picture of her grandparents. Her daughter was adorable! We went right into a fog where the mountains descended. It was ...

... than I have been offered in my entire life. Everyone wants to give you one. Conversations generally seem to go, Hello, how are you? Do you want a cigarette? sometimes just skipping out on steps 1 and 2.

My tour took me to 4 sites. The first and nearest was the beautiful little riverside village of Taxia. A postcard waiting to happen the village has a small temple and roundhouse but the real charm is in the village itself. Unspoilt by hundred of noisy tourists ...
